    Kohler 21k starts but dies

Starts instantly then quits. Sensor? Oil and coolant reservoir are full. Anything else I can check before calling for service?

That s typically a sensor problem. Oil pressure, coolant temp, water flow on some. I always keep a full set on board. Sometimes you can bypass them one at a time to troubleshoot

Doesnitnquineight away or after a few minutes when fully warmed up?

I find if you don’t warm it up before you switch it over to a full load it dies. Just another thought.

It fires and then instantly quits. No load yet.

Kohler sets need to generate 120 v a/c after start, if not they shut down instantly, see you manual, it's described in there.

    I think Pascal has it.

Yes I think he does, sounds like a faulty sensor to me too.

Re: Kohler 21k starts but dies

How old is it and is it controlled by electronics like Ohnos or purely mechanical like NLs?

Never had to troubleshoot a Koehler. On Some Ohnos, there is no oil pressure switch, instead the oil pressure sender output is used by the electronics to shut down if it drops below alarm level so you can not bypass it for testing. If you have both a sender and switch, you try either disconnecting or grounding the switch same with the others. Some senders are normally open others are normally closed.

I just remembered last time this happened I called the tech and when he arrived it ran perfectly. Apparently it’s an intermittent problem.

As mentioned a full set of replacement sensors-switches is a must have on board.
