Re: 40 weight oil for Detroit's
I’m not sure who provides the search engine for the site, but it’s not up to current expectations. If there is ever a revamp here, search should be high on the list of improvements. That’s one of the reasons I ask so many dumb questions: I try searching first, but it rarely gets me what I want. The whole “which oil for DD’s” thing was thoroughly covered a year ago, but the thread was about 8v92’s and seems to be invisible when you are looking for either 12v71 or general DD information.

Re: 40 weight oil for Detroit's
What I do is use google and preface what I am searching for with "Hatteras". For example, "Hatteras how to change oil" or "Hatteras oil recommendations" and the search results will include links into this forum. I agree that searching in this forum is pretty difficult unless you can do it with a single word and the word isn't to common.

The original poster asked about Delo 400. The point is that the information was there for the asking and for just a modicum of effort. I agree the search engine might not be the best, but it’s pretty good for what we pay. Because the search function is what it is, you have an opportunity to pick up a lot of ancillary knowledge about our boats you might not have had from an answer delivered on a silver platter.

Wow, you are really a glass half full kind of guy! You won’t find what you are looking for using the search function, but look at all the other interesting stuff it shows you instead.......
Search is just a tool and I’m used to my tools working for me, so I’d rather find the information I’m seeking as opposed to finding a bunch of stuff that might be helpful on another day.Michael & Beth

Re: 40 weight oil for Detroit's
Knowing how to use a tool is part of the solution. I searched "correct oil" and got this list which has several threads on the first page about what oils to use in a DD.
https://www.samsmarine.com/forums/se...earchid=191072 *
In this case searching for the specific phrase, which is why the quotation marks, yields threads relevant to the correct oil.
* The search expires at some point so the link is no longer valid, but the technique works.Last edited by Avenger; 12-13-2018 at 07:02 PM. Reason: added *

Guess the tool works after all. As usual (including myself sometimes), operator error.
