    Nice Little Bilge Improvement

One spot that always bothered me on Aslan is no more. The port ER sump had a 7-1/2" square opening which was pretty much useless. Changing a float switch or pump was a serious PITA. Cleaning was out of the question. I had a couple of days to kill last week before I could come back to Charleston after Florence, so I made sure I packed the saws.

One-handed hose clamping don't get it for me.

As there was plenty of room, I opened the access to 12 X14.

I glassed in a 1/2" piece of birch plywood I made in my shop after encapsulating it in two coats of resin. The high gloss epoxy paint was way too slick underfoot, so I fixed that with Interlux non-skid stuff.

Yes, I've cleaned up my saw cuts. So now I have the first chance ever to clean and rehabilitate the port ER sump. All that's left to do is to replace some old nastified hoses and remount the water maker pump. Oh, I almost forgot. The pump/switch wiring was a mess--found a wire nut no less! That's all new as well.

PS: Not mentioning any names or trying to showoff, but I did manage to remount pump and switch without drilling through the hull.

As always Robert, great job. Looks fantastic and much easy to work on. You should be a boat builder.

First thing I noticed was the over cuts. Lol. I am sure you are like me and those are the things that dance through your head at night. Very apperant in your attention to detail. Do you go off on the rest of your boat also. I enjoy my time in the engine room also. But I am a weekend warrior. Sometimes I feel like it is like painting a bridge. Buy the time you get done, you have to start over. I can appreciate your dedication. Awesome job!

I like what you're doing. A clean sump and possibly reliable pump is a GOOD thing to have. As an aside I like using a small grinding wheel on a supersized Dremel or similar to cut fiberglass. Nice and clean cuts.

Robert, With work that beautiful, I know you will need a Florida vacation this winter. Maybe February for the Miami Boat Show staying on my boat! Maybe I could hand you tools if you happen to find a project on Needs, Wants & Desires while you're visiting. Trying to confirm my slip reservations for Marathon in the Keys.
Seriously, an impressive job well done!

Very kind offer. Maybe it's just me, but that sounds kinda fishy. However, in the spirit of true friendship and harmony, I can give you the name of a guy in Ft. Pierce you might want to contact. He was up here and moved down there about a year ago. I miss him a lot!

He was my head specialist, as in standing on his.

I helped him move his sailboat last November.

I don't want to say the trip was long... but Columbus beat us by a couple of days.
