Tow line, tow hawser, tow bridle.
Ski line would be appropriate in your example.
Sadly, in a quick web search, "tow rope" is used a few times (belch) in some water skiing sites. Another reason I hate ski boats, not real boaters. Almost as bad as misquotes and lots of wet bikes.

A rope is a meaningless, non tasked, non functional piece of material sometimes coiled and ready for a task.
Until it has a task, mission or rigged, it is sitting there as a rope.
Then it becomes a line.
