And a Detroit Powered one in Cape May. My only issue is 625HP is alot of stress on a 6V92. Mine are only 550HP and most are 535HP

I have seen both of these and actually looked at the first one. I'm just a picky ass and holding out to find one with a tower so that I don't have to spend the 35-40k getting one done.

The Ocean is junk. Newer ones are better but still way below that of a Hatt or any other boats mentioned here. Those older Oceans are really poorly built and ride like crap. You could buy a real clean 55 Ocean for what they're asking for the two you posted. That Cummins powered Post does look nice but I'm betting the gelcoat is trashed. Post and Viking had a major problem with gelcoat cracking in the early to mid 2000 boats. There was a class action law suit about it and the fix is to remove all the gelcoat and then fair and paint. Viking will do it for thier customers at cost. I know someone who had them do his 55c at a cost of $90K. I think your budget is going to be best for a refit 45C. Bigger will mean a drop in quality. The 47 Post with the MANs might be a decent deal but it's no Hatteras and not nearly as good of a boat as the 50 Post. Bigger isn't better if you have to give up quality.

100% agree with you. I would rather have a smaller higher quality boat. Thanks for the information.

Alright so 8v92, 6v92 and 6-71 are the common engines I'm seeing. I have heard the 6v92 are the ones to stay away from. Wondering if that is true. Just another way to cut out some options and make it easier to find one.

The problem with buying a boat is that you have to stop shopping and work on the one you now own.

It all depends on what HP and set up. Personally I'd say the 550HP 6V92TA is the better of the high output versions of the engines you mentioned. The DDEC engines can be good and bad depending on which version DDEC and HP rating. 625HP 6V92 DDEC, 785HP 8V92 DDEC and 485HP 671TIB are all engines I would avoid unless they were fresh rebuilds.

Nut up and buy a Hatteras mid to late 90's 50 with cats or get an 80's 45 repower.

Do you want to spend the additional fuel on running a 50? Are you going to actually charter and try to make a profit?
