Re: Hatteras 38 props
I doesn't really matter what props the boat came with. If the engines are reaching their no-load rpm but not their rated rpm under a load the props are too big. How much short of the rated rpm are you? You need to run it full of fuel, water, gear, etc. You also need to run it with a clean bottom.

Re: Hatteras 38 props
I have a pair of 22x24 4 blades that I think are small for my 41c with the same power. Mine originally came with 24 x24 4 blades but runs best so far with 24 x 24 3 blades.

Re: Hatteras 38 props
The most rpms i have seen is 2300 or 2400 ...seems to me looking at boatsb reply its not an prop issue . I will have to verify the engines are reaching there no load rpm.

Re: Hatteras 38 props
I've been a Detroit Diesel specialist for 48 years and would advise you to be sure the engines are in perfect tune and the hull is clean before you do anything. I rarely find engines well tuned despite what the owners think. You typically would be looking for a 2800 rpm full load but not less. The no load about 3000 rpm which is adjusted by shims in the gov. spring housing......rule of thumb is for every .001" = 1 rpm.
