I usually cruise at 7-7.5 kts burning 4.0 gph @1200 rpm. I run mine up to 2000 rpm every few hours and blow the carbon out for 5-10 minutes. At that rpm 11 kts. WOT, 2700 rpm will be about 15 kts. lots depend on how i load it but it actually runs agaisnt the tide faster (it gets the back of the boat up). The trim tabs are a must to get the 17-18 kts but mine are broke and I havent bothered to fix them yet. I would never run that fast for long anyway. In the last 5 years we have been cruising I have never had the need or want to burn that much diesel over 2000 rpms. I'm happy as a clam with the 4.0 gph. BTW, our 1985 is for sale too. We want to go to Honduras and Panama on a sail bote. We couldnt be more happy with our 43 though. It has served us great.
