New galley up construction underway

Just started the work on my 53. First phase started with black granite floor over the aft 6' of the saloon and building the cabinetry for the new galley

As mentioned a few weeks ago, this will be a much better layout for us as we spend so much time on the aft deck. Many new boats now have this layout. Th port side window to the aft deck will be enlarged, hinged up with a countertop on the aft deck.

Cabinetry is all home made (I tore out the dinette to make room for tools) using plywood, doors and visible sides are solid Utile a hard wood very close to mahogany which unfortunately has become impossible to find in planks wider than 12", at least here in Miami. Counter tops will be black granite. Fridge will be in next week... Air handle which used to sit in the corner has been moved forward in the cabinet corner and output will be ducted up (right now it's just a hole in the cabinet top)

Also did a new headliner, using foam backed vinyl stapled on 1/4 plywood. Exisitng headliners had been done about 12/14 years ago and was showing its age. the new panels are velcroed to the strips on the ceiling and are removable to access wiring etc.

Posting a few pics of the work so far. Obviously the old antique tube TV and the monster couch will go, replaced with a narrow cabinet on stbd with a flat screen on a lift, an on port with custom made L shape settee with storage underneath and Hi lo coffee/dinner table.

Stbd side. Drawers are on ball bearing self closing slides... No more of those fragile plastic brackets in the back!
Did drawers of different heights to maximize space deoending on usage

End cabinets will have shelves that slide out to improve access.
