Curious to see what Eric says about price. $100K might be low but I doubt you'll find many buyers willing to spend over $200K for a 53 Hatt. There have been some nice/decent 501s that sold or could be bought in his price range and he should have no problem getting a decent 48 Ocean for that.

First, Paul - the galley up 501 makes the saloon so small that it can't seat all of the people that it will sleep. IMHO not a good thing.

As far as values, here is my own recent experience. Since May 1st 2015:

We sold a 1979 53 Classic for $200,000. with a few repairs done by the seller but no price adjustment. Ask was $238,500. This was a shed kept, Naiad stabilized boat with healthy power, decent paint, updated galley and a beautiful new interior. She had been twin berths and was retrofit with an athwart-ships queen.

We also sold the nicest we have seen in while 53 ED 1985 for $248,000. Ask was $299K and the seller gave $5,000. after survey. Final selling price $243,000.

We sold a 1970 and 1973 both 53 Classics. Ask on both was $129,500. They sold (within 90 days) for $123,000. and $110,500. respectively. Both were decent, but had considerable survey findings. That's still a whole lot of handsome, live able boat for that $$.

Re: How accurate is NADA boat value on a 1970 53' Motor Yacht

    Thanks Sea Eric and Saltshaker

The key statement here is FINDING A NICE ONE! The toughest part of all is getting a buyer to understand the difference between a nice boat for $250,000 and a pile of junk for $100,000. They THINK they can find a nice once for $100,000 and that isn't the case.

When I bought my 48 Ocean Motor Yacht a couple of years ago, 10 were available. I looked at every single one of them. I bought the ONLY nice one that was out there, and still spent another $30,000 getting the little things straightened out. I LOVED EVERYTHING about the 48.

I think the 501 that Sea Eric has listed, might be a super good value for a smart buyer.

Actually we are around, but it's time for our naps.
