This is the 3rd anniversary of the Chinook shoot down that killed 31 mostly navy seals. There was a thread on here I Think started by MIKEP speculating on the event. I couldn't comment then but my son was on scene flying support in the JSTARS. Apparently it was a hi altitude firefight/ambush in the mountains and we were losing a lot of people very quickly. The chinook was apparently the only helicopter to get enough "Aclimated" people there in time. You can't just pluck people from a low altitude base and dump them up high they end up with altitude sickness like cerebral edema. It was definitely a bad day for all.
