    hull thickness 58' hatteras yachtfish 1972

    getting a new thru hull transducer and they asked for the thickness of the fiberglass hull.

    It varies depending where you drill but usually about 7/8.

    Our 1972 53' MY is 1.25" to 1.5" thick within a 1' zone running longitudinal and parallel to the keel in the ER area. As you move away/outboard from the keel toward the chine area it tapers to 1" thick.

    Don't forget the fairing block. It adds to the length needed

    Hi ALl,

    For what it's worth, when we installed an additional transducer amidships about 24 inches from the keel it was solid glass 1 3/4 inches thick.

    May have a pic somewhere.

    We drilled a core out of my boat years ago to install a new transducer. It was an inch thick, and I only have a 36C. I'd bet 1.5-2 inches on the bottom near the keel, and under the engines. These boats were very solidly built.

    Incidentally, despite my boat being built in 1971 and just laid up by hand in a mold, there are no voids that I can see in the laminate, or areas of cloth separation.
