Re: Salty Dog - Our 4 Legged Mariners

Bates is our 2 year old, Cavalier/Poodle. I believe poodles are classified as "water dogs"
On this particular island trip he taught us he was true true his name.
We were anchored about 100 ft from the Island and our daughter and I took him to the island so he could take care of business. He was not on a leash, we lost sight of him and thought he had run down the island to visit other people. We walked down the island looking for him, but could not find him. After about 30 minutes of unproductive searching, we swam back to the boat, and discovered him treading water at the swim platform. Big relief, No small miracle he made it back to the boat and stayed afloat.

    Hi AlL,

3 legged mates are absolutely welcome.

Can you imagine the strength and balance it takes to compensate for the movement of the boat !

This is Travis, a five year old Australian Sheppard mix. He was named after the 1960s John McDonald character Travis McGee that jimmy buffet mentions in song. Travis loves the boat and has made every voyage with us.

    A three-legged stool never wobbles.

Great thread! I don't have a dog, but this makes me want one.

Let's not give short shrift to our 3 legged friends! Our golden lost a rear leg to spindle cell sarcoma about a year ago. That's his tail that looks like a rear leg... We still love him!
