Bio diesel varies from as little as 2% soybean fuel to as much as 100%. The base is still regular fossil fuel unless you burn the 100% stuff. Be aware that not all Bio D is the same. The amount of soybean oil refined and added to it can be different. If you buy the Bio D, it should say on the pump the %, such as Bio 20 (which mean 20% soybean). If you are adding a bio D additive then you are doing the same kind of blending, but on a smaller scale.

BTW I made a batch of the stuff a few years ago and ran my genset on it for a couple of hours. Worked fine, and smelled like french fries, as reported.
Commercial stuff should be ok. Homemade is not difficult either, but you have to make darn sure you get all the methanol and moisture (which is usually in there as a consequence of production) OUT.
