I recently noticed a swelling under the rug in my 1985 ,53' Hatteras just aft of my main stateroom closet, impeding the opening of the closet door. I cut a flap in the rug exposing the source of the swollen floor which measured about 3X 7 inches. There was a similar sized piece of 3/4 " plywood which obviously been cut out in the past being pushed upward. and previously screwed down. Removal of this piece of plywood revealed a caked white substance which looked like baking soda between the wood flooring and whatever lay under the floor I do not know if this is above the aft fuel tank or not. Could this be some sort of fire brake? Val

Re: Strange substance
Sounds like aluminum... Did bubba install an aluminum cap over the length of the sringers (under the glass) for fastening deck joists maybe?

Re: Strange substance
Since you didn't mention what model boat you have I assume it's a MY. I have a 73 MY and the end of my ships water tank is in the aft stateroom closet and the fill line is attached there if my memory is correct perhaps you might have a slight leak there. I've had some evidence of water damage there.
