Re: Hatteras Badges Disappearing
Would making the badges on your own be a trademark violation any different than making your own gasket for your DD? And we all do that without a thought. Those are a specific, one of kind shape, too, just like the script "Hatteras" is. It's not like anyone it going to put "Hatteras" on a Bayliner or a Stink Ray.
I don't know the answer, but if I had a waterjet, I'd make them, and if necessary, ask for forgiveness rather than for permission. You'll get forgiveness more often than you'll get permission. But, that's just me.

Rivolta Yachts where Loose Change is undergoing a refit has a local shop laser cut their badges in polished stainless steel. The service manager offered to get price for the early 60's Hatteras logo. I'll post what comes back.

Re: Hatteras Badges Disappearing
We have the , (very easily broken), black plastic script ones on our '86 36C. I have tried to keep them from moving with 2 sided tape. That helps but leaves a glue to deal with when you remove them. I think the best way is to just buy new ones from Sam's when the break. Because they are so fine, they tend to break when they are bumped during washing so sticking them on as well as screwing them seems to keep them live longer, but the UV always wins.

That is interesting, Sky. We do have the plastic script ones. When I do the annual polish job with Finesseit II, I remove them while I wheel and polish, (I am getting too old for that, but I struggle through the job).

Re: Hatteras Badges Disappearing
My 86 has these. Maybe they're not original. Sometime around 84-85 Genmar bought out AMF and it took them awhile to remove the AMF from things. My owner's manual says AMF on it.

Re: Hatteras Badges Disappearing
Maynard, Did you buy your boat new by chance? If not, I think that a previous owner may have changed the badge to the earlier plastic script for some reason. When I inquired a while back, Ed @ Sam's told me that the plastic script was only on the boats in the early to mid 70's. Your boat is a 1986, so it should have come with one of the above badges I would think. Interesting.
