If you're going with older engines to rebuild make sure the "marinized" parts like heat exchangers, fuel & oil coolers, etc are available and will be available. Feel like the engine builders are not making out of production parts available long term like they did years ago. As an example had a friend with early 12v 2000's get hit with lightning, took DD/MTU 14 months to produce new ECM's.

Thanks Cricket. That’s a good point. I’m hoping to fine some engines out of a high volume production boat so there should be easy to get parts. I will keep that in mind when we make our decision. Michael
