If there's oil on the air filter, check the intake tube between the turbo and intercooler for oil. Oil on the intercooler can cost a couple hundred RPM's too. Especially on TI's and TIB's with big injectors

How do I trace this? Any advice appriciated
The boost tube has a clamp on the turbo outlet and one on the intercooler inlet. Remove the clamps and the boost tube(intake tube) will slide off. From here you'll be able to see if the tube is oily and will also be able to view the top of the intercooler too. There may be one other supporting clamp in the middle as well.
