Is it really that difficult to get a website that is a little more user friendly?
Why do I have to work for thirty minutes to figure out how to upload pictures on this forum?
I still can't get them to post anyway but upside down:confused:

I post 20 photos a day on the morning funny with no issues. I put them on with my iPhone and iPad. Are you using a laptop?

Click manage attachments, select file and upload... nothing to figure out
Usually if the upload fails it s because the file is too large. People don’t realize that picture files have become huge and must be resized before uploading. This is not an issue with this forum...

I have resized all my photos and every one posts upside down. Even if I make the original upside down and upload it, it's STILL upside down

Maybe the version of wordpress is old. I cannot open anyone's photos on chromebook or android anymore.

I normally don't upload images to here. Instead I upload them to imgur.com and link them from there. Just copy the BB code on the picture and post it here. You can also rotate images on imgur.

I am guessing you haven’t tried to use the search function yet...... The clunkiness and inaccurate results is my pet peeve here: you practically need to know the answer before you search!

Considering what we pay for the service, I don’t think we should complain ...

Ditto Pascal.
We are very fortunate that Sam's provides and maintains this site. I've saved thousands of dollars from free and accurate advice received here. I also just enjoy spending a few minutes a day reading about what other weird people who own antique boats are doing. When I sold my last Hatteras the buyer was familiar with the brand, boat and my use and maintenance history by reading posts here.
So please keep rewarding the guys at Sam's with your purchasing dollars. It's a great investment.

Let's just imagine my thoughts were directed more at the membership and our ability/willingness to provide oh, say $25/yr? $50/yr to Sams (it works for boatdiesel.com) to help bring it up to standards, maintain, and possibly upgrade. Is there a way to pitch this to them and the membership?

Many would not pay. I think it works best to be free to get the most participation. Sam's benefits from getting traffic. I'm sure this free service gets the most people to learn about Sams and increases orders. You just have to learn how to use the site. It works fine.

I think boatdiesel has the same picture size restrictions. Of all the forums I use, only one has the capability of automatically resizing pictures. It s runs day hosted by volunteers some of them programmers.
Resizing pictures isn’t rocket science and easy to do whether on a phone, tablet or PC

I didn't mention any resizing issues, at least I don't think resizing will invert them right side up.

Agreed, nothing wrong with wishin:cool:
During my 1.5 hour chat with Scott he says I "should discuss charging systems" with you

Not many options for 32v anymore. The old Sentry and LeMarch or the smart charger from Analytic, or an Outback Charger/inverter.
Feel free to send me a PM with your phone number.

I take pics with my iPhone. They will post upside down from the phone to the site. So, I send my pics to my laptop, open them and spin them 360 and close. From then on, they post in correct orientation.
This may not be the most up to date site, but neither are our boats and neither am I. I would suggest taking your complaints to Sams via a call or email as opposed to open posting. All I can say is Sam's has got to be the most patient and forgiving folks ever for what I've seen posted over the years (not singling anyone out). And I really appreciate them!

Complaints about the site are meant for this section, why keep them a secret so Sam's knows the extent of the dysfunction. No need to judge my intention or demeanor

.Robert, I take pics on I-pad or I phone also and I don’t mean this to sound like a smartAss remark but I just take my pictures for the site with the phone or iPad upside down, works perf every time. John

No offense taken, John. Since I can't even remember if I tied the boat to the dock, I would get a hodgepodge of orientations. I also hate posting from my phone for obvious reasons as well as the inability to edit. Maybe I could solve the problem and just stand on my head taking pics.

Re: Is it really that difficult to get a website that is a little more user friendly?
I'm a web developer, but in no way affiliated with sams. In the past I have created, grown and managed several forums MUCH larger than sams, and several the same size as sams.
Not trying to be too harsh with the OP but using a forum as your image hosting location is akin to using your hatteras as a ski boat. It's like using a wrench to loosen a phillips head. Will it work, yeah, maybe, kinda, but it's not the correct tool for the job.
Cmon man, it's 2019, get you an image hosting service and while you're at it figure out what video hosting service you want to use as well. Sign up for said service and pay their annual/monthly fee.
To answer you question 'is it complicated', hell yes it's complicated. The wide array of image formats, sizes, orientations coupled with all the different devices that are used to take said pics, not to mention making the upload and organization process easy enough so non-tech saavy people such as yourself can actually use it. Then on top of that, server space and bandwidth become HUGE expenses. And for a free forum to just absorb those costs is not fair. So yes, just b/c it's 2019 doesn't mean that creating a service such as that has magically become 'easy' or 'cheap', it's harder and more expensive than ever.
And to the people asking sams to charge a fee.... do you really want this forum to die overnight???? I want it to be easy and free for people to come here and answer questions and share experiences.
BoatDiesel is a completely different animal. But think of what the membership on boatdiesel would be like if it were free....? I'd guesstimate it would be 10x the size it is today. Sometimes I post a question there and it is weeks before it's answered. Here on sams we get responses within a few minutes usually.
As a second note, why would you EVER want a free forum to be the central hosting location of your image hosting? What if sams shuts down tomorrow? Your images go bye bye. It's like saying you are not going to use your bank to hold your money anymore, you just gonna let the owner of the jiffy store around the corner hold all your cash for you.

Re: Is it really that difficult to get a website that is a little more user friendly?
Some forums actually do accept externally linked pictures to avoid broken links in case the external hosting site goes down or away. Yacht Forum for instance which is very successful site
As to posting pics upside down I ve never had the issue but since I never post them directly since they have to be resized I am guessing the resize app corrects the upside issue. I am using the Resize It app on my iPhone
And you don’t need to open pics on your computer to rotate them. iOS built in photo app lets you do that
