In process of selling my 1972 58' Hatteras Yachtfish. Buyer wants to see the hull number etched somewhere on the boat. I can not find it on the upper right corner of the transom.
Any 1972 Yachtfish owners out there know where else it may be?

Take a look on the starboard side right at the top of the transom. That’s where mine is located.
Hull Identification Numbers like that only started in 1973. Prior to that they were issued by the boat builder in their own format. You should probably find a placard somewhere in an engine room with an identifier like 58YF###. i.e. my 36 Convertible hull number is 36C375.

However, HIN's started in late '72 and were always on the starboard upper side of the transom. You can sometimes find a plate in the ER, and I've heard of people finding their hull numbers on the backsides of drawers etc. Give Hatteras a call and they should be able to help you. Beyond that, prior state registrations or a USCG document will show the hull number.
One other thing, if your buyer is gun shy about your boat not having a HIN, just show him this thread or have him Google, "HIN".
I ran into a similar issue with an out of state buyer who wanted my 58TC several years ago. He passed because I couldn't give him a title. This after I even explained that Tennessee doesn't title boats, and I was a boat dealer who would handle any registration issues for him and collect sales tax unless he moved it out of state and provided proof he paid.
In short, I couldn't provide something for him that didn't exist. Sort of like your boat and a HIN on the transom.
i never could find the hull number on my 1972 58yf, had to call hatteras with a serial number from an original air conditioner, they crossed it and came up with my hull number
