Re: 1991 Hatteras 40DC For Sale - Fresh Water
Short seasons, fresh water, indoor storage- this ought to be a very clean boat. Interesting that a boat built in the 90s would have 53 series DDs- I had the idea they were all 3208s by then. I was wrong.

I too have never seen a 40DC with that power. Spec sheet in the archives here shows no such option in '91. Would be curious about that as well as how it runs with those smaller DD's.

Still available. Was under contract but buyer could not get financing.

Re: 1991 Hatteras 40DC For Sale - Fresh Water
Fresh water, great, where is the boat located??
Does it plane with that power, or almost.

Re: 1991 Hatteras 40DC For Sale - Fresh Water
Very economical power it will act like a trawler but will go 18-20 knots if you need it. The boat is in Kenosha Wisconsin inside heated storage.

That's a lot of squeezing on those DD's. Are we near 1hp per cubic inch? (371)

Actually over it, at 318 ci.

Did I miss the horsepower? Don't see it anywhere.

No, but to motivate said vessel at the alleged 18-20 knots you're going to need something at least in the 6-700 range....

Re: 1991 Hatteras 40DC For Sale - Fresh Water
I'd still like to know the story behind how those particular engines ended up in that boat. From the 1991 brochures archive here.

Re: 1991 Hatteras 40DC For Sale - Fresh Water
There has to be a story. Wonder if the original owner worked for Covington or Penske or someplace with a strong relationship to Detroit Diesel and didn't want the Cats.

Re: 1991 Hatteras 40DC For Sale - Fresh Water
I asked a lot of these questions when I bought it and was offered the following: “The boat was special ordered with Detroits with the idea if major work was ever needed the Detroit’s could be repaired or rebuilt in place where the Cats would have to be removed from the boat.” So the next question was asked: why cannot the Cats be replaced in the boat? “Detroits are designed so that cylinders can be replaced unlike a Cat that would have to be removed for cylinder work”. Then my next questions was: That does not seem like a big deal to me? “If you think about the cost and time to remove the bridge to crane the motors out and back in then re-install the bridge it will be a big deal”. Seemed like even a better boat then to me.

Re: 1991 Hatteras 40DC For Sale - Fresh Water
Was contact by a broker that seemed to know a lot about Hatteras Yachts and claimed the 6/53’s were more popular in the 42’s.http://www.samsmarine.com/forums/ass...3&d=1529347460

Re: 1991 Hatteras 40DC For Sale - Fresh Water
I inquired about the 42 cpmy version of this boat in Longboat Key. It is since off the market, but it had the same motors.
What would it take to move a boat from Wisconsin to the gulf coast? Guessing it is cost prohibitive, unless one does it themselves.

Re: 1991 Hatteras 40DC For Sale - Fresh Water
Wisconsin to Chicago then to the Mississippi River. Not sure about bridge height but I think it would clear everything. Look on “Great Loop” sites for route. I thought about this boat but I’m not a fan of 6-53’s.
