  1. Hull thickness

After surveying another brand boat and decideing to keep the hatt I drilled a hole in the side of my Hatt for a vent. No wonder they don't creak or groan in a sea. The sucker was 3/4" inch thick a ft and a half above the water line. I can't even imagine what it would cost to build a hull like that...

  3. Bye Knocks

Curious what you all are running for binoculars- how many and size and brands. I have accumulated three pair, plus a junky set. This would be the minimum number I'd want aboard. One pair at helm, two for those on watch; the other set is for deparation. The decent ones are 1) Olympus 7x50,...

  4. Global Warming Takes a Breather...

MI will have set a record for snowfall this yr, vs. 1880 (no, not 1980). http://www.mlive.com/news/index.ssf/2008/03/its_a_record_year_for_snowfall.html Also, Milwaukee set a 100 year snow record and the Antartica Ice Pack is at a 100 year high build up. Will Al 'baby turn in his peace prize...

  5. Good windlass

Have any other Hatteras owners had good luck-no pun intended- with Good windlass? My 34' came with one-all rope-scared me -so up graded to a 35lb Delta plow-and new rope-that I got from Good. Hoping this will hold me-since I only anchor out when I leave my dock.Mix

  6. Where's the Hatt's for Sale?

I always look in the Lakeland Boating in the back ad sections looking for Hatt's...just a pastime. (Haven't looked at YW.) Many, many boats for sale in LB...Searays, et al, but hardly a Hatt to be found...interesting...maybe the depressed prices are causing curr owners to sit on theirs...

  7. If You Like Dogs Read This

This whole thing was so strange I thought I'd share it with my HOF friends. My family and I are dog people 15 years ago when I moved to FL I took in 4 strays that were living in the industrial park that we moved a business into. Two of them stayed at the shop and two traveled with me from home to...

  8. It has been that kind of Winter

Michigan has had the coldest winter in decades. Water expands to freeze, and at Macinaw City the water in Lake Huron below the surface ice was supercooled. It expanded to break through the surface ice and froze into this incredible wave. Looking at this makes me think Spring can't come too soon. We...

  11. Massive cargo ship

This is how Wal-Mart gets all its stuff from China . Get a load of this ship! 15,000 containers and a 207' beam! And look at the crew-size for a ship? longer than a US aircraft carrier which has a complement of 5,000 men and officers. Think it's big enough? Notice that 207' beam means it...

  12. Bio-Fuels, economy etc

Thought I would start new discussion regarding these issues and remove from the Trawler thread. Read yesterday that the Bio Fuel investments are at a bust. Due to the price of corn, now well above 5/ bushel, they can no longer make a profit. Construction has halted on new ethanol plants etc. ...

I found this table for sale but it is not what I'm looking for. It is a Hatteras table and the price seems right. If anyone has any interest I'll point you to it. Jack

  15. I hate to see Navy ships decommissioned...

Within a half mile of my marina, the USS Horne (CG-30) is being prepared for target practice. http://www.usshorne.net/horne/sinkex.htm BTW, all the cars in the foreground of the lower pics are acres of Kia cars coming off ships from Korea. DAN

  17. Entering NY

Mike P, Saw the pic of your chartplotter as you were traversing the East River. Wild ride! We experienced the opposite on our run from Mystic to Virginia. From just east of Rikers Island to the Triborough Bridge, we slowed from 11 to 4 kts without changing RPM! Other than whitewater...

If you have been following Fox News or other media this past week you already know that a prominent couple in Hilton Head Island, John and Elizabeth Calvert, have been missing for over a week. 20. Hull up keep

This may be a dumb question but I was wondering with your boats being painted and not gel coated, do you still need to wax constantly to keep the finish from fading, or does the paint shine after washing? What kind of upkeep is required on the hull, compared to a gell coat hull?
