  1. I've wanted a Hatt MY since I was a kid. Finally closed on one today!

After 7 plus hours of phone time, over the last four months I've finally bought a Hatt from a guy who owned it for the last 29 years. Any veteran owners have any tips. I'm a very seasoned boater since birth, just have zero experience with the brand. I've done light research over the years.

  3. Boat moving in spring, hire captain to train me or for the whole trip?

Our new to us 53 is in winter storage on Lake Michigan up in Onekama Michigan about an hour south of Traverse city (by car). We will have to wait until all the ice flows are done in the spring to bring her up and around and back down to the Lake St. Clair or Port Huron area (Lower Lake Huron) ...

  4. A Hatt Sport Fish vs. the Open Consoles

This is an inquiry, since I will never own an "open console". However, I notice there now very large sized with massive v12 outboard Open Console boats on the market. All great for high speed runs to the boon docks, in reasonable seas. However, how will they be in a big blow, which is when I...

  5. Want TV reception while at the dock

I purchased a "smart" tv but i'm not smart with internet technologies. I have internet on my smart phone and figured out how to create a wi-fi hotspot so the tv can get an internet signal thru the phone and "stream" video. Not good - keeps freezing or can't get signal. The over the air antenna...

  6. 40 foot aft cabin draft

I looked at a 1996 40 aft cabin and the broker said the boat had a draft of 4' 9" is this correct. If this is correct it is to much for my marina. Thanks Sam

  8. Insurance for Canadian Boats

After getting a good survey with a few recomendations which are easy to fix my insurance provider has stopped my coveage. Its due to age, the boat is 1973, I have not had a claim in over 10 years. The survey came in at average to above average. I would appreciate it if any other Canadian owners...

  9. Flibs 2021

Who all is going? Had a good turnout last year and will most likely attend again. Might even drive down in the new land yacht and spend a week or two making the rounds. Should that be the case, does anybody know of any parking areas/campgrounds for a 40'er?

  10. Boat History, trying to find it!

I filed for an abstract of title for our new to us 1980 53 MY It only goes back to 1992 with a registration in the Republic De Panama. Is there any way to go back further? I was told an interesting story on the boat.... "Supposedly" it was purchased by a Prince somewhere in the middle...

  11. Bow/V-berth stateroom hatch

Looking for some advice/recommendations. I have a persistent leak in the V-berth hatch on the bow. I tried covering the vent alone and that did not make any difference. I covered the entire hatch and leak did not recur. We're expecting rain the next couple of days so plastic is staying in place....

  12. Slip in Charleston

Bottom paint and generator install is nearly complete on my 48 Long Range Cruiser at Ross Marine in Charleston. I would like to find a slip in the Charleston area for a couple of weeks to stage my trip from. I visited or contacted most of the marinas with no joy. Charleston Harbor wanted $1,748 for...

  13. Adding security cameras for in-port/marina

Well after a recent incident on a neighboring boat in the marina, I pondered this issue for about a week before moving forward with installing an inexpensive webcam setup on Pau Hana. Long term plan is a BRNKL or similar system, but for the near future/short-term, this was a cost-effective solution...

  14. Madeira Beach - Treasure Island Veterans Day boat parade

If anyone in the area is interested this year is the 25th annual parade. Anyone can be in it and it's great fun. Lot's of people out on docks watching and honoring. I get about halfway through each year before getting a little teary eyed. Great weather for it this weekend. No need to go all out on...

  15. Exterior wood work question

I know the norm is to refinish and varnish and repeat every few years. Is it possibly to do something like a thick polyurethane coating that would "last much longer" or is that just not feasible? I'm thinking like what you see on some restaurant tables where they have a very thick coating. I'm...

  16. Lessee, GPS, nope; Loran, nope; Radar and Compass

So I am a lowly, lowly deckhand (called a Deckwatch) on a 710' Ore Boat, owned by the long ago defunct Reiss Lines. This is about 1966, and she was actually one of the biggest ore boats on the Great Lakes. But olde, and very spartan. Lots of steel decks, in the cabin, and hand turned valves to...

  17. Very reasonable live aboard dockage in PRIME Ft Lauderdale area

I have kept my boat in Ft Lauderdale in the winter for about the last 16 years to live aboard. The prices at the marinas have been more money than I was ready to pay. Hence, I have kept them behind peoples houses on canals where it was legal to live aboard. The last couple of years I have kept her...

The stern lights on our new used Hatt are corroded, and also regular incandescent lights. Are there possibly replacement lights available in higher output LED or are these possible to refinish somehow? Thanks!

  20. Appraisal Values on Old Girls Who Have Had Work Done

I am nearing the point where I am seriously looking to buy– less than 24 months until retirement.:D My wife and I have been discussing how much to spend on older Hatts (late 70s to mid-80s)? We have $300k and don’t mind buying a boat in that range that requires less upfront...
