  1. MikeP966- Fuel Polisher

I was reviewing your fuel polisher system. Would like to make one myself. Can not find the gulfcoast F-1 filter. Would you want to sell your unit? If not let me know where you brought the gulfcoast F-1. Thanks Russ.

  2. Shaft packing size

The boat is in the yard and I'm in the long process of removing the huge lifting rails. So far it takes about one hour per foot cutting through the more than 50 roving laminates that make up the rails, not fun. Anyway, I've decided to replace my shaft packing with GFO while she's out of the water...

  5. Some pics of my intercooler work

First Pic is the intercooler assembly removed from the boat, note the silicone oozing out from the seams. Next pic is one intercooler after MOST of the silicone has been scraped off - took about an hour to get it all and there were four such surfaces! Last pic is the intercoolers re-assembled...

  6. Those %$&#!! Windlass foot switches

OK, I give up. I've been replacing the foot switches for my windlass about every fourth trip. The only ones I can find locally are at Boaters World - Seadog or something like that. They aren't carrying a load, only activating the solenoids, yet they fail at an unreasonable rate. It's...

  7. Not nuts-just bi-polar

Just some musings--spent last weekend going through some stuff on the CAJUN HATT TRICK and a few things came to mind. This boat is vastly different than my gas boat here. Are in fact the starting and charging system 32 volts? 8 volt batteries seem kinda bastardish to find. Can I cheat with 24...

  9. Emergency shutdown - More things to check!

After I completed the check of the re-installed intercoolers for leaks, etc and with both 8v71Tis running at 1500 RPM for 30 minutes, I reduced them both to idle and tested whether the emergency pull for the air doors on the engines will actually shut them down. The answer was: Port - yes,...

  10. Seized bolts

Breaking a bolt during disassembly is not so much fun. More like a &**^%$#@*%$#@ !!!! moment. I'm about to tackle a few seized studs and would like to make the experience as painless as possible. Two questions: What are tricks for removing a seized bolt/stud. And what are tricks at preventing...

  13. Outboard motor question...(Hatteras Dink)

I've worked on engines all my life and I should be smart enough to figure this out but... Our dink has a little 4HP Merc. Today it had great difficulty idling and clearly the carb needs cleaning ( I left it all winter with fuel in it) and adjusting. Here's my problem: It's a manual start...

  14. Now this is historical!

Found this on google news: A BRITISH-BUILT spacecraft reached Venus yesterday on a two-year mission to explore the Earth’s closest planetary neighbour, ending a 250 million-mile journey that started in Hertfordshire. What's next, Lucas electrics that actually work?

  15. Zincs on 6/71 Naturals ??

I have 2 6/71 naturals on my 58 LRC. A mechanic told me I need to only put a zinc in the one place after the heat exchanger. He said to leave the other 2 with no zinc?? (one at salt water pump and one before heat exchanger). Is this correct. ???

  16. Prepping for painting ?s

Probably no-brainer questions, but having not painted with Imron before, I'd like to throw them out there.....I'll be painting the cockpit & flybridge soles/sides and gunnels...rolling, not spraying. 1. For the soles, do I just sand through the existing non-skid, or keep going to remove all...

  17. Garmin and XM radio

We recently purchased a Garmin network bundle and have a question about the XM satellite receiver hookup. Unfortunately, Garmin tech services have been unable to help in this case. 18. Talking At last...a Hatteras of my own.

I’ve been waiting for this day to come - the official closing on my Hatteras - before completely letting the cat out of the bag, but today is the day! I am now the proud owner of a 1980 Hatteras 58MY. I’ve spent almost two years searching and researching. With a little patience that was...

  19. 8V71TI RW hose question

On my engines the RW connection between the turbo intercoolers and the fuel cooler consists of a curved chrome tube about 2 feet long connected at each end with a short section of hose. Is this oem? In re-installing my intercoolers I was looking at the layout and thinking that full-length hose...

  20. Why can't I just......?

Here's a question for you electrical types. Seems like the big concern about galvanic action is stray current through the ground wire at the dock. The current seeks to get to ground so it goes through your metal fittings and salt water to other boats, swimmers, etc. So why can't...
