  1. anchor chain depth markings

Is there anybody out there with an easy solution to painting 100/150/200 foot depth markings on my galvanized anchor chain? I used metal spray paint out of a can last year and the paint didn't last a season. I have gotten outrageously different answers from the two marine stores and three local...

  2. trash compactor

We just got a product for our galley from Boater's World called "the Trash Masher". It is a "manually operated" trash compactor. Before you laugh too hard....I know, you all have a manually operated trash compactor...your hand...but this gadget really works well. It is a small trash can with the...

  3. The Michelin Man Drowns

I see that Edouard Michelin, 42, great-grandson of one of the founders of Michelin Tire and the CEO, drowned in a boating accident in the Ocean near France. Sounds like he was in small line-fishing boat (8.5m=28 ft?) and was found floating, but the boat and its skipper were not and have not been...

  4. Electronics Advise

I am having difficulty with a decision that may seem obvious to many of you and would appreciate input. Our 1979 37C has a Garmin 215 GPS in the cabinet above(no longer supported by Garmin for charts) and a raytheon radar 2403 in the cabinet to the left that ocassionally will not zoom down from...

  7. Water Wetter

Has anyone heard of or better yet tried the product called "water wetter"? http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/redtech3.htm Their website claims that it tranfers heat better than water and is a better coolant than water. Looks like a very interesting product especially for those of us in Florida.

  8. Cost to fabricate insulation blanket

Hello all..., I need some advice.... I have asked a Ft. Lauderdale yard to quote the cost of fabrication of a 1 1/2" crossover insulation blanket for my exhausts (gray or silver, or black hardcoat lagging insulation). I have a 61', 1985, with 12/71's. They've quoted me $2,550. Also, I've...

  9. Dirty Fuel Tank

I have an 1987 53' Extended Deck that needs to have the fuel tanks cleaned. Several questions: 1. Are the tanks metal or fiberglass? Can't tell without ripping up the floor. 2. Does anyone know the configuration of the baffles inside the tanks? 3. Can you share ideas on how to clean...

  10. Sloppy day in LI Sound...

Came back from Port Jefferson, NY to Northport yesterday - small craft warnings were out (we were the only powerboat I could see in LI sound). It was one of those "We should stay where we are but we have to get back" things (NO, we didn't really have to get back!). At the time we were anchored at...

  11. Robertson AP300DL Fluxgate

My autopilot has stopped working in Auto and Nav mode with the display staying at 38 degrees. I've toned out the cable back to the junction box successfully. When I pass a large screwdriver near and around the compass the display does not change. It's the compass. Right?

  12. Fiberglass repair in NJ

Last fall, during a northeaster, and this winter, during the February Blizzard, my boat sustained fiberglass damage at the hull to deck joint at the starboard bow and the port midship. The pilings also took off sections of my rub rail. The boat was stored in the water for the winter. I had a...

  14. Generator Install

I'm in the process of "preparing" for the install of my generator. I have one place to put it...in the lazaette area under the fishbox of my 32FB 1985. In there are two stringers that I can somehow build a platform to hold the genny, which is mounted on a frame-like platform itself with vibration...

  16. Balsacore

I have a couple soft spots in my cockpit deck near the fuel tank sight glasses that need to be taken care of. I assume that the best choice would be to use balsacore for replacing the rotted wood except for around the site glasses which would be FRP. I have also seen where some of you have used...

  17. Question How do the head mirrors come out?

  18. Dinnerware

Okay, so the Admiral thinks that the old non-skid melamine dinnerware that we have had on our boats since 1975 should be replaced. I have looked at similar stuff made by Galleyware but I was wondering what everybody else has and what works well. We like the non-skid but it rarely is actually...
