  1. Cutlass Bearing Replacement

After hauling my 1983 48 MY yesterday for bottom painting and replacement of the rear starboard cutlass bearing (surveyor last november recommended replacement because of minor "play" in the shaft) I got a call from the yard saying that the 14" long bearing (I assume two 7" bearings?) was too long...

  2. Safety Tip - Intake Vaccuum at Speed

Had a very close call on Passages today. Was checking operation of the turbo on my 6-71ti this afternoon. With the air cleaner off, I pushed the throttle to 2100 rpm and went to shine my light down the throat the check for oil leaks. The damn thing sucked my hand and flashlight right into the...

  4. In search of-- Metal AC Vent!

Greetings all. Of all the things I've lost, its my mind I miss the most. Second is the 9 1/2" by 9 1/2" metal ac grill / vent from my forward stateroom. How did I lose it? I don't know... Does anyone have an old or spare one? I checked with SAMS and they don't have them. The Home depots,...

  5. What are Symptoms of Turbo Going Bad?

The port engine turbo on my 6-71ti is making "funny" noises. I'm also noticing an increase of blue smoke until engine is warm. Performance wise the engine seems OK, plenty of power, turns rated WOT +50 and runs like a champ. The noise is a slight chatter which almost sounds like metal on...

  6. Props Vibration on a re-engined 46C

Hi there, I re-engined my 46 C with GM 550hp 92s instead of 435hp 71s and although I have no vibration with the old props, it seems I have a vibration with the new right prop which is a 4 blade 30/36, as prescribed bu both Michigan and props and a local manufacturer. Any ideas why? I would...

  7. Engine quit/fuel issue

I'm putting along at idle when the starboard engine ran rough for a few seconds then died. Thinking I ran out of fuel (floscan still showed about 40gals remained out of 150) I limped to the fuel dock and filled her up (stb tank took 112gals leaving 38 in the tank). Once full I opened the engine...

After spending about 3 hrs today cleaning the hull due to marks left by the 5 fenders we put out while docked up downtown for the weekend, I figured it is time to buy covers, least till I priced them online. 10. Tenn-Tom in sight!!

Well, I made it back home from the land of sweat and squalor-- 3 weeks of living on a " sinker " in NOLA and then a week at home in Chicago is a blessing, but its' 90 here too !!! Great news tho; it took me 45 minutes to close-open and close at least 11 sea-cocks. Bar far the worst was the center...

  15. Question Apartment size stove on a 48 MY

Would anyone know if it is possible to replace the Galley Maid range with a 20" apartment sized range on a 1981 48MY? The add for the range/oven says it takes a 40 amp breaker at 220 volts. Sounds like an awful lot of juice, but maybe it works. The admiral wants more power for faster cooking. Bob

  16. gauge installation

I am adding an additional control consol and have purchased new Stuart Warner electric marine gauges. Finally got a chance to fill the water tank on the 36 and bleed the winterization juice out of the system and now have a "problem". The Galleymaid freshwater pump builds and holds 35 lbs of pressure, but it is building the pressure much, much slower than last year! If I ran the...

After 39 years the old aluminum portlites finally gave up from corrosion. Two sizes were involved 7 x 15 and 7 x 18.
