  1. Tender Davit & Spare Prop Storage

Have two questions we are looking for help with, this is on 1968 flush deck MY. Weight lifting limitations on a "J" pole type Davit for the tender - manually push out/pull in but has electric winch to raise and lower. I can get rating on winch, need rating on Davit pole itself. I have heard...

  2. Tender Motor

I have a 40 hp four stroke Yamaha with 42 hours and less than 5 since full service (oil, impeller, lower unit etc.) It's run great the last two weeks. Today a temp alarm keeps going off. Plenty of water flowing out and not even hot to the touch. If I turn it off and count to 30 it starts up...

  3. Tender recommendations

I am looking for a 10' tender. I looked at what was available at the Miami show and I'm thinking about a Zodiac Yachtline 310 RIB or an Avon 310 RIB. Both are rated at 4 persons and 15hp. The Avon has 17" tubes vs 16" on the Zodiac and the Avon warranty is 10 years vs 5 on the Zodiac. Anybody...

  4. tender rub rails

Hey you travelers, Have any of you upgraded the rub rails on a FG tender to something big and white that may reduce "skiff rash" to your yacht? I understand most use RIB's and there are many advantages to them, but wondering if I can replace the puny rub rail on my stumpknocker with something...

  5. tender storage

we have decided that since the party is on the flybridge the space behind the seating would be better used with a hottub than the dinggy.but now we have to figure out where the 11ft rib will go when we travel.freedom lift too expensive and weaver snap davits a pain to use any ideas would help

  6. Tender/Davit Size

I have a 46ft 1975 SF, It is set up for a davit/crane that extends through the deck all the way down through the main statesroom's closet to the floor. What type of davit/crane should I be looking for and where is my best bet on finding one? As for a tender, I would like to use a small Boston...

  7. Tenders

Thinking about buying a used tender. Choice is Caribe or Novurania, 11'2, 11'10", 12". The 11'2" 2002 Novurania has a 25HP Yamaha. 11'10" 1999Novurania 40hp Yamaha, The 12' Caribe 40hp Yahmaha (no year). Any thoughts on price? On manufacturer? On size? Smaller would be better for us.

  8. Tenders - RIB vs. Boston Whaler

I presently have a 12 foot RIB Supersport Avon with a 40 hp engine with the typical davit on the roof of my 54MY. We tend to put the dinghy in and tow and don't bother to lift it up for months at a time. Since we are towing anyway, we are thinking of moving up in size to have more room, range,...

  9. Tenn-Tom in sight!!

Well, I made it back home from the land of sweat and squalor-- 3 weeks of living on a " sinker " in NOLA and then a week at home in Chicago is a blessing, but its' 90 here too !!! Great news tho; it took me 45 minutes to close-open and close at least 11 sea-cocks. Bar far the worst was the center...

  10. Tennessee Weather

On a positive note: With all the talk about heating a Hatteras we spent 1 night on board at 5 degrees. With both split units running and the engine room warmed by both blockheaters it was very comfortable. You have to be careful to leave some cabinets open and not let doors get closed but all in...

  11. Termites!

Had to run a new antenna wire under the bridge and found some unwanted visitors. Now I have to get the boat tented. I was saving up for a new enclosure now this will tale a thousand dollars. Not to mention prepping the boat for tenting. The joys of living in the tropics.

  12. Termites!

I found termite droppings on deck under the portable wooden step stool (original Hatt part with teak top) in the cockpit last week. Fortunately the problem is confined to a piece of construction douglass fir someone used to beef up one of the corners at some time, and the bugs are in that...

  13. Terrific experience with Hatteras expert…

We’ve all had good and bad experiences with boat service people. Even in the best of circumstances, most service folks spend quite a bit of time on “the learning curve”, getting up to speed on some of the complicated, often interconnected systems on our boats. I just had the single best...

  17. Question Test / Check engines while not running?

My brother is looking at an 85 42' Chris and it has 450hp 6V92's w/1400hrs. He's wanting to put an offer on it, but is wondering what kind of engine testing can be done while the boat is in storage? Is there anything that can be checked out? And what's the verdict on the 6V92's? From what...

  19. Testing Battery Charger???

I currently have a Heart Interface (now Xantrex) Truecharge 40+ charger on my two bank battery system (2-8D's in each bank). The charger has worked without a problem for the past 10-12 years. Two days ago, apparently one of the 8D's shorted out (3.5 years old) and the charger "cooked" it dry. ...

  20. Testing Coolant

Can anyone post how to check the amount of "charge" left in your coolant? I know there is a certain tool that is used and was wondering what that was and what correct levels were (does this change based on engine type)?
