  1. Voltage reading problems

I spent last week on vacation in RI, and did a couple offshore trips for shark while there. On the second trip out, I noticed the port voltage meter up just into the red, over 16 v. A while later it was back in the normal 14v range. Coming home observed the same thing. Fine half way home then ...

  2. Battery Boiling Over

I have started to notice recently that my starboard (house) bank of 8d's (2) will boil over the cell nearest the postivie termial where the cable first connects to the bank. I have a Xantrex (Heart Interface) Truecharge 40 Multistage charger and it is set on "Flooded" Battery type,...

  3. Glendenning Synchronizer

I've had so many problems with my Glendenning engine synchornizer that I'm ready to just disconnect it and never use it again. I'm curious how many of you have had problem free use of your synchronizer and would not do away with it? I own a 1985 32' Hatt w/flybridge w/new Yanmar diesels. Thanks.

  4. 37C temp gauge

What does the hash mark represent between 180 and 220 on my 100-220 ac gauge? 200?( see below) Is the first hash mark between 100 and 180- 140? My 6-71TI have been running at 180 or less since the entire cooling system was redone. Sunday on our return from Cuttyhunk the port gauge ran above 180...

  6. Another engine room mystery

Another mystery to be solved on my 1968 50' Hatt MY. In the starboard engine room, outboard of the engine (8V71N), is an access hatch on the floor that opens up an enclosed box, about 8-10" on each side. It is just outboard of the outboard stringer. No clue as to what its purpose or function may...

  7. Generator GPH for what it's worth...

I checked the fuel consumption on our NL 16KW genny, model M844K. Everybody I've talked to at the marina says their gennys burn a gal per hour. It doesn't seem to matter what size they are, everyone claims 1 gal/hr. So I was curious.. I put the pick up and return hose in a 1 qt beaker full of...

  8. Blackfin 671

My friend might be interested in a 38 Blackfin with 671's. I told him I would ask the elite on this forum, for some help. We know the boat would be seaworthy, as she's almost a Hatt, but not to sure about the reliablity of the engines. Please let me know if you have, had, or are familiar with these...

  11. ladder repair

I have 45C360 a 1970 convertible. My ladder (original) has developed a problem. The second rail, which is the handrail part is seperating (has seperated) from the other rail, which holds the actual steps. There appear to be white plastic pieces inside of the stainless tubes that the screws hold...

  14. Using No Dull

I think I'm calling it right. It's the cotton swaps you polish the stainless rails and bimini braces with. After using it on the top braces we take a cloth and wipe it down thinking we are getting all the black off. Several days later looking at the under side of the bimini top where the braces...

  15. Testing Coolant

Can anyone post how to check the amount of "charge" left in your coolant? I know there is a certain tool that is used and was wondering what that was and what correct levels were (does this change based on engine type)?

  17. hidden fault in a hose

I was on the first major trip with the new boat. I checked all the hoses for rot and weakness but missed the hidden fault. 18. Davit Capacity on 1974 58TC

Just purchased a '74 58TC which has an electric davit on the bridge. The dingy cradle appears to match a Whaler, but the seller didn't know the capacity of the davit (thought it was 500lbs., seriously doubt that). The dingy that came with the boat is a dinky little 8' hard plastic job with a...

  19. Westerbeke Generator Problem

During a recent 5 day cruise on my 41DC, I was awakened by the sound of my 7kw Westerbeke gas generator shutting down at about 4am. My first thought was it ran out of gas as that side was showing low on fuel. After refueling later that morning, the generator proved very hard to start. I checked...

  20. 8V71TI Cooling System Cleaning

I want to get ready to start a Great Circle Route cruise in 2006. Over the winter I'm going to clean the cooling system on my 8V71TI's. I plan to have the heat exchangers boiled out at a radiator shop, take off the intercoolers and check for fouling, and take off the shower heads and clean them. ...
