  1. RIB Parts

Found my Gemini inflatable deflated this weekend with the pressure release valve blown. This company has no US Dealers but I would think the pressure release valve is a standard item on most RIB's, no??? Anyone have any idea where the valves can be purchased? Thanks.

  2. Preferred Vendors- Icemaker, Fenders, Etc.

I need to start whittling down my list of items to buy and I would like to draw on the resources here for some help with vendors. First, I need to buy a U-Line BI 95 Icemaker. For some reason, the prior owner removed it. They are readilly available online for about $700-$750 excluding shipping. Any...

  3. Fyi Battery Boxes

My boxes were deteriorating from acid gases. One was split on corner where you had to step on to get to outside of engine. Anyway I pulled batteries from split box - then used baking soda and water to scrub box. The stuff just boiled the acid off the battery box. Reglassed box. THe other...

  4. U joints, why not?

i was reading my favorite magazine, Passagemaker, where they had pictures of the engine room on a diesel boat (40ish) with a pair of Ujoints between the coupler and the stuffing box, mentioned as an Evolution drive. this sounds like a good idea, no alignment issues, less vibrations, etc... all...

  5. Veneer finish choices

Hi Guys, I've slummed enough in these threads to have an idea of what finishes old Hatts came with, and how many have chosen to refinish them over the years. Tung oil, Teak oil, and oodles of various varnishes come to mind. Not to mention the usual water damage finishes ranging from paint to...

  6. 43 SX Owner

Some of my old pals here may have noted the spate of inquiries lately and wondered why and how they relate to the 56 MY I own. Well, I decided I had enough with my 29 Luhrs and upgraded it to a Hatteras 43 SX. She is a beautiful 1996 model with 460 hours on the engines and had been a fresh water...

  7. How long did take to find the "Perfect Hatt"

Woodsong's YF thread got me thinking about this.... How long did it take you to find the "right" boat, and how many frogs did you kiss before the prince/princess appeared? Misty took me a year to find, several plane trips, two attempts at survey, and 4 months to get to her new slip. It was...

  8. Shaft Play

Pulled the boat today for winter storage. One thing I noticed was on the shaft behind the rear strut there is about 3/16 area of the shaft that is smooth. Like there is longitudal play in that shaft and when in reverse the shaft moves up. I tried to push it longitudally by hand but it didn't move....

  9. New Windless

My 43 DCFB does not have a windless or a bow pulpit. I would like to add one this winter. I have a NO.5 Danforth with 8 ft. of chain and 300 foot of 1 inch nylon line. Any ideas on model and size I need in a wingless. What do you think is the best unit. I don't think I know squat on this subject. I...

  10. Where to find Technical Specs.

I bought a 34ft 1969 Hatteras in Puerto Rico. I own property there so the boat is in a marina there all the time. The little information I got with the boat is all in Spanish. Is there any where I can obtain technical specification sheets and user manuals for an older boat like this? It has two...

  13. SW Florida Marine surplus/ liquidators

I'll be in Ft Myers in the beginning of November and I was looking for any marine surplus equipment stores that might be in the area. Specifically I'm looking for some vacuflush parts, maybe a new swim platform, and any good deals on odds and ends. Are there any places like this around? Chad

  14. Cat engine loses rpms

My 3160 (3208) Cat Natural on my port side(1400 hours) has begun to lose rpms after about an hour of running over the last three or four times out. I have replaced the primary and secondary fuel filters about two months ago (15 hours maybe) as well as attempted to rule out the tank by switching...

  15. What's that Smell...awww #@$@

Came back to Misty last night, and the boat didn't smell right. When I kicked on the heater, yes, the #$@% heater, which draws air from the bilge, it about knocked me out. Stuck my head in a few holes and found black water in the bilge. Guess I'm not going to make tonight's raft-up! To make...

  16. Motor Oil Sae 40 Preference?

Changing the oil on 6-71TIs in a 1979 37c hat, the capitol gears and a NL generator. All use SAE 40. Last change lubriplate was used although i can't find it easily now. People seem to recommend Shell Rotella t. Where do you find it. Even Walmart has Rotella in 30wt but not 40wt. Quoted $68 for...

  17. helm chair to sailfish chair

Is it possible to add a gimbal to a helm chair and make it into a sailfish chair. The price differential between the two, in the more expensive chairs (Scopinich) seems way out of line.

  18. temp gauges (mechanical)

i have an odd problem with the temp gauges, port engine (the one with the starter issue last week). both lower and upper helm port gauges read 20deg higher. I checked with an IR gun and my hand, it is the gauge, not a cooling issue. how do they work... there is a fine tube going from the...

  19. Bomar portlights-new glass

I was looking at the Bomar portlights in my transom. You know the large portholes that are in the 80's motoryachts. They just don't clean up well anymore. It's as if the plexi in them is etched and a bit foggy. I was going to try to remove the plexiglass from the cast aluminum frame and replace...

  20. Starter problem, fixed.

I dropped my starter (8V71N) to a starter shop this morning, the guy called me and said that it looks like the starter remained engaged and wrecked itself. He thinks that an electrical malfunction, like a stuck starter switch, is the likely culprit, and not necessarily a problem with the...
