  1. Detroit Diesel Specifications

I have two old Detroit diesel marine engines installed in a 1969 Hatteras 34 Convertible. They are model: 5062-3000 serial 6D146967 and 5062-7000 serial 6D145932. I have no idea the displacement, horsepower or any other technical specifications. Where can I find such information? I already asked...

  2. True 3D Size Limitations

Goal: Get 3 staterooms, walk around engine rooms, Hatteras quality. Limitation: Ridiculously inexpensive (free) under cover slip with 17 feet wide, 50 feet long (can hang out some though) and overhead that 17 feet 10 inches touches at extreme tides with wind surge. Question: What can I...

  4. Winter Projects

Hi All, Haven’t had the time to post anything in quite awhile, been busy with boat things in our all too short season in Michigan. This winter while the boat is on the hard I got a few winter “projects” to do. My list and I will keep it just to the engine room is as follows, pulling the...

  6. Galley Maid Water Pumps

I have a Galley Maid 110 Volt and a 32 Volt water pump. Both pumps are plumbed together and have one pressure switch between them. When low on water, the pressure switch doesn't seem to turn off the pumps. They will continue to run the stators dry which I know is not very good for the life of a...

  7. 6v92 Parts best place to buy impeller, gaskets, etc.

I've tried searching for this information but to no avail. Is there a preferred vendor that has a good web site with drawings etc for 6V92 parts as in gaskets and impellers etc. Or just a good guy that knows what he is talking about so you can secure the correct parts in a timely manner? thanks...

  8. Onan MDKD Generator Headaches

My MDKD has performed reliably for the 6 years I've owned my 43' motor yacht, withone exception. About a year ago, after a couple of attempts to start it in cool weather, the starter circuit went dead. I assumed that I had perhaps overloaded the starting circuit and probably tripped some kind of...

  9. Jets and trannys

Saw an outboard motor with a water jet in place of the prop this weekend and it made me wonder why are there not more jet drives on Hatt-type boats? And while I was wondering about propulsion systems, I also wondered why boat trannys don't have multiple gears like cars and trucks? Yeah, I don't...

  10. 1979 43C w 6V92t's

Howdy, About mid dummer we bought a reasonably well cared for 79 43C w' 6V92's. We had her oil coolant and filters changed and took off for the balance of the summer. We plan to fuss over her but I want to be sure my 6V92's are in clean order before I let the missus spend on cosmetics. Anyway, my...

  12. Are diesel gensets not ignition protected?

Why? I am (was) considering changing out the gas genny for a diesel unit in our gas powered Sedan. Whats different? Can one get or make a diesel powered generator ignition protected?

  13. Change the coolant once a year???

Seems I picked this up on an earlier thread. While I have never considered this ("once a year"), it may be good advice. Was wondering what other (panelist) think about peroiodic coolant flush and renewal. (I want to get the most out of my CATs). (Responses please stick to the #$&* thread - dang...

  14. bad oil leak

I got go run the boat finally after all the exhaust work today. But unofortunetly I now have a new problem. We have some sort of major oil leak on the front side of the starboard engine. It leaked somwhere between a quart and two quarts in a short 20 minute ride. Every thing was running good...

  16. Fuel Tanks

In the restoration of my 34SC I am approaching the point of repowering to diesel. With all the horror stories about fiberglass fuel tanks and ethanol blends, I am leary of moving forward without replacing the fuel tanks. 1) Once FG tanks are flushed and cleaned does that stop the damage from the...

  19. Robertson Autopilot Repairs/Parts

I've got an AP 300 series unit, with the main display freaking out. For some time it gave frequent control unit failures, and the LCD display would go nuts. I don't think it's the brain box however because the remote always seemed to work. Every pic I've seen of these shows dark spots in the LCD...

  20. NMEA Translation-Old Auto Pilot

Has anyone tried to translate NMEA 180 to 183 or vise versa? I have a good Robertson AP (NMEA 180) that will not take course deviation corrections from my cheapy GPS (NMEA 183 output). Is there a way to do this cheaply? This Robertson holds a heading great but will not track to way points, etc....
