  3. Hatt Hull thickness

I've seen various statements about how thick old hatt hulls are or aren't. This morning I cut a hole for a new transducer in our '80 53MY. Attached is a pic of the section of cutout over a ruler. The left end of the cutout is aligned with the left end of the ruler. This cutout was taken at...

  5. Patching small hull-holes?

A related question to the hull thickness thread: After removing the oem fairing block, there are two small holes in the hull where Hatt installed anti-rotation screws approximately 4" apart . The screw holes don't go completely through the hull. It looks like the holes go maybe halfway through...

  7. Question 53 MY and ED Engine Selections

Please help me understand all of the Yachtworld ads I am reading regarding the engine offerings on 53's. I see 350, 435, 450 and 465 hp shown and can anyone tell me which went into production when (465 6V92 during 1985 I think), are all the rest 8V71's?, which are turbos vs naturals, and which will...

  8. Deck bracing

The old 43 has +/- 1X4 vertical bracing in the engine room to help suport the salon floor. It's always a pita and in the way. Is there any reason I couldn't replace it with either pipe like my topaz or 1" box alumunin. On an 79 pacemaker I owned I sistered the deck beams with alum. And moved the...

  9. 8V71TI runs hot

My starboard engine now runs about 8 to 10 degrees hotter than my port engine, so I want to fix the cause this winter season. Starboard runs about 180 to 188, port 170 to 178, according to RPM. Checked/compared both engines via infrared thermometer; exhaust manifolds on both sides of stbd are...

  11. 60' Battlewagon

I have a doctor nephew that is looking at a 1978 60' Hatteras convertable. They all seem to have 650 hp 12-71 Detroits. Does anyone have any thoughts good or bad about these monsters? The prices sure vary. Are the engines tough or hand grenades?

  13. Temperature Gauge Accuracy

My 1979 43DC has the OEM electric AC temp gauges. I have always noticed a difference between the lower helm and upper helm readings ... about 10 degrees ... with the lower helm reading higher. Over the years I've used an IF heat gun to check the temps of the br*** sending units and determined...

Having real problems with seaweed and grass in my AC strainers AND thru hulls. Particularly the thru hulls. My stb. 6-71 has a very rusty oil pan and I'd like to paint it, besides accesing it, whats the best way? You can hardly touch it and I don't see how you can even get underneath it right. It doesn't leak, but I hate seeing all that rust on the pan. Bill

  16. Calling all '85-'87 Hatteras 43MY owners!!!

They have accepted our offer on a 1985 43MY with 671TI/365hp. I am going down to check it out next Sat. I have talked to Karl and he has told me what to check for in the engine room, now I’m looking for Owners of ’85-’87 Hatteras 43MY’s to tell me things to check and things they wished they had...

  17. 15 amp 1 pole 120V breaker

Sorry to ask a tacky question on this forum but I need a few 15 amp 1 pole 120 volt ac breakers to add to my panel. Is there perhaps a less expensive source for these breakers than the $85 per breaker here?

  18. adding/wiring 120v outlet

I'm adding a themostatically controlled outlet in the engine room of our 1977 36C to power pad heater on the engines. Good news is that I have 2 open 120V breakers in the original panel, and no problems snaking wires into panel. Figured out how the black and white (hot and neutral) attach on...

  19. Engine help!!!

I was running the engines up to cruise(1900) when the starboard engine lost power and began to blow massive amounts of black smoke. I backed out and the smoke quit and all gauges were good.
