  1. Replacement windows and frames

I'm looking at a '72 48' Hatt YF that is said to need window frames replaced and I suspect I'd replace windows as well. What can you buys tell me about (1) anticipated costs and (2) sources of these materials Many thanks, jcchev Louisiana

  2. Turbo Questio

while reading a thread the other day one of the members stated that he stays below a certain RPM so the turbo doesn't "kick in". I was under the impression that turbo's, on Detroit's, spin from the moment you start them. Wouldn't you need to have a waste-gate to bypass the turbo for it not to spin....

  3. 8v53n's problems

Has anyone had the same experience as me with these motors? I've had the port motor re sleeved twice in the last 3 years because of lack of compression. I made thne mistake of not getting a compression check before we bought the boat and now I regret doing so. Any thoughts would help.

  4. N

Anyone know how or if one can translate NMEA 180 to 183? I want to continue using an old Sharp Autopilot on my 37 Convertible with a new GPS. Previously it was linked to a Loran. I understand the CDI output in NMEA 183 (got the manual) but do not know how to convert to 180. Any computer nerds out...

  5. Michigan 43 dcmy

For all the Michigan Guys, first of all good luck this weekend (U of M vs OSU) A couple we boat with on the East coast has been in love with our boat since we purchased it years ago (they currently have a 33 SeaRay EC). They are looking at a Michigan freshwater 43', 1972 I believe, for 109,000 and...

  6. Great pictures

We took a last run on Lake Michigan before they hauled her and my friend David took a bunch of pictures of "Rebecca" while we put her through the paces. Here is a sample. David, who is also a forum member with a 52CMY and screenname DavidK, took about a dozen shots like this and sent me a...

  7. Tranducers

I have a very old Datamarine sounder and transducer that I am going to replace this winter. I would like to replace it with a Raymarine 600SX and my question is the transducer I removed is 1 ½” diameter and I don’t really want to drill a new hole. Are these transducers a standard diameter? I would...

  8. Un - Repower

1966 34DC , Previous owner repowered with DD 4-53's. Cruise speed 8.5-9 kts, WOT about 9 kts. Bottom line is I want to be able to go closer to the speed the boat was designed for. In a previous thread I asked about other diesels and it seems the 260HP Yanmars would probably be my best bet...

  9. Question about Chemical Bottom Stripping.

When my boat was pulled for the winter a few weeks ago as part of the haul out process the yard power washes the bottom. It's fresh water, no growth other than a little green slime. The young employee operating the industrial strength power washer made a mess of my bottom. Granted there was quite...

  10. Hurricane Parts/Pulpit

I read from time to time about boats that the insurance companies "bought" that were damaged in hurricanes. However, are these boats parted out and if so, where do the parts show up? In particular, before I complete the refurbishment of my bow pulpit, I thought I might try to source a pulpit that...

I would hope that the powers that be do not pull this post. We spend many hr. talking about all the good guys I fell that we should also be warned about the bad. 12. Will this storm blow out my eisenglass

Watching this storm move up the Chesapeake today after it reaked havoc across the South over the last two days. Predicted gusts over 60mph from the South. My brand new enclosure is three sided, open in the back, on the bridge under a brand new hardtop. It has three hard pieces across the front...

  14. Tender bottom paint?

The reason I ask is I broke my davit winch. I got the new part put in and broke another part. Long story short, the Whaler sat in the water for a month and the growth was crazy. I got it scraped off but I would rather loose a little speed then have that problem again. So, what kind of bottom...

  16. Inside .vs. Outside Helms

Ge Karl...We ran in 10' seas off New Jersey enroute to Florida. I did not need foul weather gear on our 36. In those conditions I operated from that awful inside helm. Very dry and right next to the coffee pot. Now who said inside helms should be taken out???

  17. Silly questions - Winter boredom setting in.

Dear Forum Think there's no such thing as a silly question? These may require you to re-think that position. To make it as painless as possible, I'll ask 'em all at once. These are a mongrel assortment of things that have sort of bothered me for a long time, but I always thought someday I'd...

  18. Racor Drain - True Confessions

There is a thread going on about do it yourself stuff. 20. Electric cooling pump for genset

My genset burns through raw water pumps nearly as often as impellers. After some research, it turns out that the design was bad, and the pump wasn't much better, so I started looking for alternatives. The idea of using an electric pump has come up, wired directly to the genset so it come on with...
