  1. Good bye to the conveniant boat!

This time tomorrow, instead of living a 6-8 minute walk to our 53MY, we will be living a 5+ hour plane ride plus an 1+30 car ride to the same boat! Yep, tomorrow AM we will be leaving for Mexico; Monday morning my wife starts her new job as the Regional Director of the International Civil...

  2. Isolation Transformers

I have a 58 LRC 1977 with 2 50 amp shore power connections. I normally use just 1 of these and can run all 6 a/c units with no problem as long as I have 235-240 voltage from shore power or either generator. The current comes in thru 2 Acme Transformer isolation transformers. HOWEVER when the marina...

  4. Smile RACOR filter source

Looks like cases of 12 RACOR 2020 filters, 2,10,or 30 micron filtration, for the RACOR 1000 filter cartridge many of us use, are available on e-bay boat parts at about $80 plus $10 shipping (about $7.50 each). This seems like a good deal. Anyone have a cheaper source?

  5. Adjusting Onan Genny Valves:Easy!

If you have looked at the "Valve Adjustment" section in your Onan manual and its anything like mine (1972) you may be afraid to tackle the job...it LOOKS really imposing, but is not. First few times I read it, I decided against trying it myself. HOWEVER, most of the detailed instructions, such...

  6. Engine room air vent size

I got a real education on adequate vent size to feed high HP diesels at the boat show. The 8v92 pulls over 800 cubic feet per minute for a natural aspirated engine. I am trying to calculate the air draw for turbo charged engines. it would appear that a turbo would double this requirement. Does...

  10. Chart Box Storage

In the never ending search for more and better storage on our 58Yf the chart box area next to the stairs from salon to galley have come under the eyes of the admiral. Has any one modified this area? Seams like a lot of wasted space in that area, but has very poor access.

  20. freewheeling velvet drives.

I found my manuel for Borg Warner Velvet Drives. I believe there are seveal of us who have these on small diesels and gas motors. It stated that as long as oil levels are up that free wheeling does not hurt these transmissions.
