  1. Storing Bait Board

Sorry to ask an easy one but for those who fish on board and who use a cutting board or bait board, where do you store the board when not in use. No matter how well it is cleaned, the board always ends up stinking and I was curious where folks keep the board when not in use.

  2. 53 MY or 54 MY?

Today we looked at a 1986 54 MY with a pair of 8v92 650 HP GM's, 1700 hours. Whats scary is the likely fuel burn on those big diesels, and the fact that this model was only built for 3 years. I also read that she has cored hull sides and prop pockets. Is this model a dog? For the price of a '85-'87...

  3. DD engines

Will the 8-71N last as long as the 6-71N In comparable boats? Boats like the 43 verses the 53? Will you get the same amount of hours with each? What type of cruise and speed can I expect with a 53 with 8-71N. I ask this because I have a lead on a early 70/53MY with 8-71Ns. I want to get a live...

  5. Dryer Vent Duct Access on 48MY

Does any one know if I can access the dryer vent duct on a series I 48 MY from the closet behind it and avoid taking out the stacked machine? I either have a kink or a lint restriction that needs to be corrected. Bob

  6. Insurance Help

Greetings - First let me introduce myself. I'm Jeff from Michigan, 51 and mostly retired. Right now I am at my sister's in Punta Gorda (SW) FL. Thought I was going to close on a 1966 41 foot convertable today, we still have a small mechanical problem that should be fixed tomorrow. ANYWAY my big...

  7. 8v53 fuel burn

Does anyone know what the fuel burn is on a series 1 41'c w/ twin 8v53's at 16kts, 20kts, and 10kts. Just would like to get an idea of range for a boat like this with 300 gal of fuel. Thanks

  8. Dock side water supply question

Hi all, and thanks for all of your great help. I'm still getting familiar with our new Hatt and have a couple questions. When hooked to shore water, the presure gauge is sitting at about 65psi, seems too high to me. The photos i took show a tank (what is that for) with the gauge attached, and a...

  9. Fuel Tank Materials

I think we need to get this thread going as it looks like we all might have a problem in this area soon. IMHO the only good material for larger fuel tanks is fiberglass. The plastic ones have no baffles; that's bad. The steel ones rust, the aluminum tanks rot completly. Stainless tanks have seam...

  10. The Future of Fuel Prices

There is a recent thread which explored the question of fuel prices. In that thread, I suggested a 10-20% drop over the next 6 months. This morning, David Pascoe posted an article with the above title agreeing with the outlook presented by myself and Genesis (Karl) In esessence: There is...

  11. Re-building cockpit chairs

I know this site has lots of hands on carpenter and fabricators so hopefully I can get a few good suggestions on my chairs. I believe they are pompanette type quad base chairs that swivel and have a solid base and back that appear to be fiberglass encapsulated wood. Well, the wood core has rotted...

  12. 41 convertibles, series 2

I decided to open a new thread on this, mostly for my own curiosity. I looked on YW for later model 41Cs, and found about eight or ten for sale. As far as I can determine, all were the galley-up models, although there seem to have been a couple of different galley-up configurations. Some had 6-71s,...

  13. Autopilot options - 43C

My Robertson AP stopped working a couple seasons back. I've checked all the connections, and they seem fine. I even opened up the unit to check for corrosion, and there was none. The unit powers up, and shows my course fine, and the hydraulic pump seems to be working ok as well. It just doesn't...

  14. MHI tubo's on 6V92 TAC-2's

I've have the MHI's P/N 49182-04100 on my engines and wondering if anyone has any specific problems with the Mitsubishi turbos? Bascially I inspect the units for bearing play, clean the vanes and look for any signs of distress. Any info will greatly be appreciated. Al

  15. Onan diesel smoke at start:solved

Back in November I posted a similar thread title. Good responses, thank you, but no positive cure. I've been getting smoke and miss for perhaps 20 seconds at start. It's a 4 cylinder MDJC 12KW, 1972. After the post I noticed a tiny amount of diesel fuel, drops not teaspoons in the pan and...

  16. heres a funny one- NOT!!

This is the result of a 60mph breeze-- it found us turned 180 in a 75 foot wide channel in the a.m. Thankfully, I had a stern anchor out or we wouldve ended up in the main channel at 3 in the morning. THAT would be a rude awakening! ws

  17. one for the Starman!

Just putsin' around with some varnish; some of the stuff cleans up and looks nice, bit the trim is really dark. Even after some agressive sanding, and a liberal bath with acetone, it looks like black walnut. Did the PO maybe change that out? Ive never seen teak that dark. Even the stair bannisters...

  18. Racor Fuel Filter Primer Pump Kit

I just read about a new fuel primer pump for Racor 1000's & 900's in the Febuary issue of Passage Maker. It installs between the bowl and filter body, and can be retro-fitted. Sounds interesting. Has a pre-screen filter. http://www.parker.com/racor/Prodbul/fuel/7585-RacorFilterPumpBrochure.pdf
