  1. Oil Filter Housing for M20 Transmission

The oil filter housing on my Allison M20 trans is extremely corroded. Previous owner ignored a water leak. Any ideas on where to get a new/used replacement? Any thoughts on what make/model canister style retrofit gear might be suitable? It's on my Gulfstar 49 with 6V71's. Thanks, Allan

  2. New Stern ladder for 53’ MY.

As anyone with a 53 MY knows the stern ladder is straight up and down. When we were younger it wasn’t an issue. We are over 70 now and it was getting harder and harder to climb or descend from the stern. I had a local marine metal fabricator make a new ladder that racks more like a normal ladder. I...

  3. Replacing Crowell Steering With Hynautic

As part of the refit on my 41, I plan to pull that squirrely Crowell steering that I hated since day one. In fact, I think my very first post on here (as RREGISTER, first time on the net except for business stuff) was about it. I think I got three replies. Actually, now that I think about it, I...

  4. Why do gens shut down once you hit a starter?

I have two gens. No inverter. If both gens are on, and I start the engines, they drop off line leaving me no 110 until I restart them. Not a huge issue, but if I’m out bottom fishing, drifting with engines off, the moment I hit the start button I love my 110 as gen shuts down. Any idea why this...

  5. AC Voltage Problem

In tracking down an unrelated issue, I discovered that the 120 ac on my boat is only 108 when plugged in to the dockside. It's a full 120 at the boat end of the cord, so I am getting good power from the dock, but the outlets are only 108. When I run the genny, they have the full 120v. Any...

  6. Dock Boost Transformer

I'm tired of lugging around an external BucBooster for docks that only have 208v. I was looking for alternative and came across this today. It appears to be the next generation Charles Iso-Boost, plus it has some intelligence built in to deal with low/high level line volt conditions, which would...

  10. Cat 3126 engine

I can’t remember if the 3126 was the Cat engine that had the problems or if it is a good engine. I would like to hear from the experts on those engines and their pros and cons. Thanks in advance, John

  11. Remote Bilge Water Extraction Device (Casual)

For some reason, rainwater enters my port side outboard bilge from the rod holders; their bottoms are outside the cockpit. I don't know if this is OEM or someone along the way did a modification. But, rainwater accumulates on that side only, and it's an exception to a dry bilge boat. The hitherto...

  13. AC problems

Scratching my head…. about 3 weeks ago my salon Cruisaire stopped working on my 1993 48 cpmy. The two dometics for the cabins are still working. The salon AC kicks on but doesn’t cool. It runs for about 30 seconds and kicks off. It then kicks on again for 30 seconds and gives me the Hi PS error on...

  14. In-place flush of heat exchangers on DD 8-71's

Has anyone done an in-place flush of the saltwater/raw water side of the cooling system and if so can you share how you did it? I am working thru the survey issues in my engine rooms, and one of the top items was flushing both heat exchangers out. With the low hours on my engines, the surveyor said...

  15. FLIR Thermal camera

A few weeks ago, something was leaking in my kid's room. The plumber came with a FLIR thermal gun and pointed it right at the wall. 17. Freshwater level indicator

I'm a rookie but learning fast. The fill level indicator gauge above my counter top doesn't move. Original 1986 gauge. Went below to the water tank and a one of the 2 wires from the 'sender' was broken. Removed the 2 screws holding it to the brass/bronze cap.... thinking I'd extract some sort of a...

  18. DIY 32v 280 Ah LiPo4 battery

Not that I would do this, but some of you are crafty enough. Ran across this on you tube. The builder is using 3.6v cells (2.9 when they arrived), but they are readily available in 3.2v (3.5 when fully charged). My new 32v 340Ah array is 35v when fully charged. https://youtu.be/X_ucHHnh4Ik

  19. Bilge pump suggestion for 41’ DC

Have a 1971 41’DC, that has its share of issues. One being not the correct bilge pumps. Previous owner installed a sump pump up in bow area. Looked at both automatic pumps and pumps with float switches online, what is correct for this boat, want to do it right

  20. 52C Hot Water Heater recommendations?

My late 80's 52C has a newer Whale 6 gallon water heater that was installed by the last owner. Looking at it seems too small and most of all it doesn't provide consist water temperature for showers. I just cleaned out a large water maker outboard of my starboard engine so I have some room to work...
