  1. 34 C Dimensions

I spoke with the tech at Big Rock Propellers here in Morehead City for suggestions for new wheels. Here is the problem... I cannot find a realistic weight for the boat. The original brochures on Sam's say 11,000 lbs. I doubt this. It also claims 40 mph with 280 hp engines. Anyway, the tech...

  2. You've just got to love varnish

To use it. Ok so I did break down and start to refinish the slats on the fighting chair. Problem 1 is the PO's have sanded them before so the screws are starting to protrude. Quick fix is to grind them down a bit until I make a new set of slats. In the mean time I have 6 coats on to...

  3. Window Glass, Part 2

I need to remove another panel of glass. I got the outer one out, and now I want to remove the inner one...all in order to remove the screen so I can replace the screen material! There is a metal edge on this glass (not on the outer piece) that has a piece of fuzz running down it. I cannot get...

  6. Portlight Replacement

Finally got the old one out and am contemplating the new install. The old port did not have any caulk or bedding of any kind on the bottom, and before I goop everything in, I figured I'd ask whether that was done for a reason, such as the case when sealing plumbing trim rings and such, to let...

  7. While I was in there

I had a manifold problem cause an exhaust leak and sooted the Stbd engine. It clogged the intake filter and choked it out. All because the 2 3" pipe nipples between the manifold and collector rotter out. I had a lot of help from Kent (SHVLDIS) in making new flanges and had the manifold repaired...

I need suggestions on where to buy the GFO stuff. Ive found 1/2 X 30" for $54.00 but I think thats a bit rich. 9. Stuffing Box

I am getting ready to repack my shaft boxes because noticed my gland is not centerd on the shaft. See photo. Anyone know if I can recenter this on the shaft when I repack it or do I have an alignment problem. I don't have any heavy leaking at the packings at all. Just a small drip.

  10. Bypass oil filter and Racor light sensor detector

Two general questions: (1) Does anyone use or have experience with bypass lube oil filters? And what's your experience? These are about 1 micron (very small) filters which take a small amount of lube oil around the full flow filters and really keep the oil clean. Instead of changing oil, most...

  11. Where seldom is heard

...A discouraging word. Just spoke with the prop shop guy. On the star prop the trailing edge has 2 blades out 1/4 and 2 out 1/8 $900 ! The SPO had to back into something as the leading edge is good. The port has a chip in one blade that needs repair, $660 !! New equi-quads 28X32s are 2500 ea. ...

  12. muscle buster

Has anyone tried Muscle Buster on there props? It's a powder coating process I had it done to a set but didn't have them on long enough to know if it works. It's expesive around $600 for 2 props but if it stays on and keeps them from fouling it would be worth it. Brian

I am in the process of buying a '68-34 Convertible. If I counted correctly, this is my 1,000th post! While I have been boating all my life and even grew up on the water in a houseboat, I have learned more from this technical forum than any other source. Many thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for Hatteras. ...

  16. Combination Water Temp/Oil Pressure Gauge

I am still fiddling with tower gauges, or at least the concept of a tower gauges. Does anyone know of a good source for a combo gauge as described above. I see Teleflex makes one but I am not crazy about their gauges. Also, does anyone know if I split the output off of the alarm senders on the...

We finally got Sweet Melissa out of the yard and back home on Friday. WHEW! Over 6 months of work in the yard, but it was well worth it. 18. gasketing & sealing

Hey, all. I was just curious what everyone uses for different kinds of gasket & thread sealants with their projects for the following: - raw water threaded fittings - threaded oil/fuel fittings (where necessary - i.e. turbocharger) - sealants around gaskets (i.e. heat exchanger or impeller...

Putem to sleep for about 5 months even though I really did not want to. The temps in Lewes, De dipped down below freezing at 26 last night, which prompted me to head down yesterday and get everything done. Changed the oil..flushed with freshwater using the Grocco crash valves I installed...

  20. Flybridge Drain Locations- early 53MY/58YF?

We just got Sweet Melissa home from the yard and after washing the boat, I noticed water gathering at the flybridge helm area. It is as if she is bow heavy and water is not draining aft behind the benches, but she is quite level right now with full fuel and water. I wonder if the yard unknowingly...
