  1. Can I put stern controls on 54' Hat

I just bought a 1988 54 Hatteras. We are going thru surveys, engine test now and hopefully will close is about a week. I want to stern in at most marinas and would love to have stern controls in the rear sun room (Florida room). The boat has manual cables to the transmission. How hard and...

Hi there ... Boat partner just called and said that we have a leak that is coming from a hose that runs fore/aft behind the outside berth and closet in the owners stateroom. Hose is approx 1/2" diameter and seems to be salt water. Anyone know what this might be ? thanks

  3. Hynautic Steering Filter Change Tips?

I had similar Hynautic steering on a couple of my Hatt's, but none have had a filter (to my knowledge) before this one. In the pic below, you can see the white spin-on type filter partially blocked by the cooler for the steering fluid. The filter looks like a typical spin-on oil filter but it says...

  5. Ultimate Bilge Pump Switch

See the link below, expensive, but hopeful somebody on here has tried one and is satisfied. I'm sick of the rule switches that consistently fail to work. http://www.boatownerswarehouse.com/browse.cfm/4,658.html

  6. Single Side Band - Sitex Nav Fax

Does anyone have any experience with the Sitex Nav Fax receiver linked below http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/MP63487114.htm. I am entering my 13th season fiddling with my SSB (SEA 222) and wondering whether there is any reason to believe that I might receive signals better from this receiver only...

  7. Anybody ever used PulseTech chargers?

An email from PulseTech made it through my spam filters. Since it was about battery charging, I read it rather than just hitting the delete button. I've heard of pulse charging technology being effective at desulfating, but always figured it was snake oil. The pictures included in the email...

  8. Davit darnit

My davit turns freely with no load, but after I hauled up the new tender (Bluewater Baby with Honda 25 hp) I couldn't pull it in, even with a strap and rachet. I read somewhere the davit is rated for 1,000 pounds, and the new rig should be under 700. It's hard to get any leverage to turn it...

Well, so far it seems this years only casualty is the stbd engine alternator. Can anyone recommend a reputable rebuilder on the south shore of long island, NY. 10. fresh water pump not working

When we left our boat about 6wks ago after spending the winter on her the galley maid fresh water pump was working fine. When I turned it on yesterday upon our return, it runs but does not have any suction. Although it is self priming, I primed it....didn't help. I disconnected the main water...

  11. Minor Seal Design Change, Helpful Result

This is very low tech, but Groco has modified their design of the seal that sits between the raw water intake "cover plate" and the intake "body". When the cover plate is removed, the strainer is then removable. Formerly this seal was a round "ring", with the center portion cutout, so that the...

  12. dock power

Another problem during our trip south of the border. The slip I was assigned in this marina only has 2 30 amp plugs. It is an end tie with two separate 30 amp plugs. Obviously I only have 50 amp input power. I have a pigtail with 2 30 amp 120v input to a single 50 amp 240v that connects to my 50...

  13. Priming cast aluminum before Imron touch up

Hello all, There is a Bomar hatch on my Imroned Hatteras MY that has some peeling which has exposed bare and pitted cast aluminum. 14. Hynautic Steering Rebuild

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and rebuild Kismet's hydraulic steering myself. While waiting for the seal kit to arrive, I started cleaning it up. There's a heck of a lot of brass on these things! And built like tanks! Cleaning up nicely on the buffing wheel. Should look like brand new...

  15. Hot Water Tank

While my 40 Gallon hot water tank is still working, it is getting on and I am worried about a sudden leak or failure. With a 6 week trip planned in remote areas, I feel a need to intervene early. It is approx 32" high and 22" wide and won't fit through the engine room door (18.25") on my 54MY. ...

  20. 1985 36 C Seires II Exhaust

Does anyone have an idea who built the original stainless steel exhuast for the 1985 36C Series II? My boat has the turbo charged Cat 3208 engines. It appears the riser/exhuast pipe on the starboard side has several pin holes in it and when we attempt to fill them the hole just keeps creeping...
