  1. Winterization Procedures - Heated Indoor

For all you list guys (and gals) that get to winterize your boats for the off season. What do you do to prep your boat for the winter snooze? I've attached my list as a starting point. Mind you, this is for indoor heated storage no antifreeze needed, no shrink-wrap. Might even want to leave a...

  2. Props and cruising

I have a 1979 Hatteras was 58' extended to 72. I need to be able to answer these questions to see if the new props should be tweaked for cruising. I'm not sure how to answer these? The Detroits are 892/T Anyone know how I can find out these answers? Time is important here if you can help, Thanks....

  3. 32v to 12v

One the side walkways of my boat I have 6 32v Perko lights. They are getting too hot and literally "charing" the inside of the fixture. Would it help if I switched the power source and fixtures to 12v? Or better yet 12v and LEDs?

  4. 426 elbow to riser connections on my 1967 34ft twin cabin

Can anyone shed some light on seating and connecting the risers to the elbows on a 426 gasser. They come with the 2 "o" rings and the connecting "sleeve" and I was told it was a dry fit but when trying to bolt then together clearances are ridiculous. One bold lines up under riser that you can't...

  6. Project advice 43 DC

It appears I may have missed my first choice for a 43 DC. I am now looking at the one in Pt Pleasant,NJ. It has engine troubles with one(read overhaul) and the other has 1800 hours (6-71N's). I am doing this project to be my last boat (It's not that funny!) and I would like it to be as...

  8. 8v71ti cruise rpm

Assuming your engines are reaching 2300 RPM under full load at WOT, I was wondering what RPM could an 8V71ti cruise at. I have been running my engines at 1900 with no issues for about 12 years now. Engines still start cold with no smoke. I run it that way everywhere I go, but on a few trips I have...

  9. Removing HE in/out hoses for cleaning

Hi All, I'm setting up to do the acid cleaning of both HE's on my 8V71TI's. I have all the great info from this forum on actually doing the acid cleaning but would like advice from anyone out there with the same engines as to where to break the IN /OUT hoses TO/FROM the raw water side of the...

  10. AC help

AC help! 1977 48 LRC, the fan motor on the air handlers for the galley went south. The model on the unit is EB010C and is no longer available (go figure) The unit is all riveted together with no good way to get to the motor. Looks like my best option is to replace the complete unit, looking for...

  11. Windshield glass

I rebedded all my windows this past spring, and apparently we nicked one in the process, as it developed a crack that ran from the top to the bottom. I want to replace it with original quality material, but I'm not sure what it is (tempered? safety? thickness?). Does anyone know if the original...

  12. Satellite Receiver Protocol

What is the accepted protocol in selling a boat with Direct TV satellite receivers? I have four plus the dedicated 12V one on my 56. Obviously, the 12V one stays but on the others, do I leave the receiver plus the card and deactivate, take the card only or take the receiver and the card for...

  13. Battery Charger Quit - How to find the problem

I discovered a dead house battery bank Sunday. It looked like the problem was corrosion on the negative terminal. I used an automotive charger to restore the batteries (they had 7% charge) while I was cleaning all the terminals and connections. The fwd 8d would not hold a charge so I went to the...

  14. Hot Shore Power Cord

Ever since I've owned the boat, the shore side of the shore power cord would get warm if both AC's run for a long time. It would get hot right at the plug after a long day. Knowing this was not a good thing, I finally took it apart and this is what I found. The insulation is completely burned off...

  15. Are Splash Rails Really Necessary and Effective

Hi All, I was just looking at images of our various classic motor yachts and I started wondering, (which always gets me in trouble and often highlights my ignorance), just how effective and necessary those aft splash rails are.

  16. Oil Sheen in Exhaust Water

I noticed a slight oil sheen in my stbd. exhaust water flow at idle. This after about 120 miles at cruise (1,850rpm) returning to USA. There is no water in my lube oil, nor in my transmission oil. Did not need to add any fluids on the enire trip. So the only fluid not accounted for is likely to...

  17. Wiring WEMA senders and gauge wiring

The schematic shows one sender wire going to the vessel ground and the other to the gauge. The only ground available is the bonding system and I don't want to introduce any current to that, so I ran a ground wire from the 12 volt battery (soon to be replaced with a converter - see my other post)...

  18. 1979 72' Hatteras – For Sale – "Los Suenos" $275k

This vessel is now in cruising condition a very nice vessel. You can see at www.webworldusa.com photo's, info etc. I would also be interested in trading down to a 45' to 54' trawler.

  19. Lost Diagram of Electric Wiring for 43DC 1983

Yesterday, in St Michael's harbor, the primary depthfinder quit finding. System is a pair of Networked 3010Cs, a Garmin GSD 21 sounder box, and a Garmin (Airmar) through-hull transducer. System worked normally at the slip and on ride down to St Michaels. After a few minutes maneuvering to...
