  1. Detroit Mechanic in Southport, NC??

Can anyone recommend a good DD mechanic in Southport, NC? My port 6V92TA engine is losing coolant to the tune of 10-15 oz/ten hours cruise at 1100 RPM. There are also signs that it sprayed out a mist once (crusty solid salt on tops of bottles and oil bucket; this is not sea salt!). Water puddle...

  3. Electrical "interference" question

We installed a new GE Advantium oven in the galley. Whenever we turn on the galley overhead 120VAC lights, the oven beeps and goes into the waiting for you to enter time or temp mode. If you do nothing it then resets to "off." The oven and lights are on different circuits so I'm not...

  4. Learned something about florescent lights

Had one of the dual-bulb circline florescent fixtures go out the other day. Since there are two bulbs with an individual socket to attach each bulb to the ballast, I assumed that the ballast was bad since I could not imagine that two bulbs failed at exactly the same instant. But to be sure I did...

  8. Installation of deck fittings question?

I recently had a davit installed on the foredeck of my 43c. I had the installer de-core and epoxy the area around the stand pipe and mounting flange to avoid any wet core issues later. My question is, should I also de-core the areas where I attach the deck cradle and tie down anchors? Is it...

  10. need suggestions from 48 LRC owners or anyone with some ideas

I am stumped. Water is getting into stbd engine bilge and it appears to be fresh water, doesn't taste salty. All the other bilges are dry. There has been no rain or have we run the A/C. I guess there could be condensation but why only the stbd bilge unless the boat list a tad to stbd because of...

  13. Window Frames

My 1988 36 has the original bronze colored window frames. The finish is so thin you can see through it in places. It's not corroded, I'm in fresh water, just bleached out by the sun. Question is, has anyone refinished their frames to the original color? Every one I've seen are painted the hull...

  18. Quick note on waste hose

Dr Jim and I went to the Annapolis boat show earlier today and, based on my recent disgust with Shields XHD sanitation hose I paid particular attention to look at what new boats are using for waste hose. On a new 55ft Fleming and a new 65 ft (can't remember the brand) the waste hose was...

I have 8v92 TA with air seps. i have owned the boat for about 2 years now. How often is it necessary to clean the after coolers? I heard that with air seps the coolers get some oil sludge build up. Are there any signs which present themselves before cleaning is needed? Is there a scheduled...
