  1. Northstar6100i Issues

The Northstar6100i unit on the bridge of my 74 is not powering on properly. It is the slave unit to the one in my pilothouse and I use it primarily as the radar display on my bridge. I also use it to control my pilot on the bridge but that can easily be changed to use the newer Garmin I have on the...

  3. water overflow

I'm hoping someone has corrected this problem in the past. I have a 53" MY and in the last 10 months have seen the walk ways on both sides of the boat back up and overflow into the cabin over the two side doors. I know we have had some big rain days, but this has only happened three times in 10...

  4. Deck Box, Replacement

Have a 1979 53 Motor Yacht, Deck boxes are not in great shape. They could be rebuilt, but would like bigger. Does any one know or recommend a replacement company? Need a deck box, not a dock box (with legs). Would be great if it was water proof, and then it would be spider proof. Could not find...

  5. 110v light toggle switch

I am replacing the OEM salon lights (110v and 12v combo) with a stand-alone 12v light and 110v track-lighting. Question is: Does anyone know of a good source for a 110v small profile toggle switch made for the marine environment? I have sourced a toggle switch from Lowes but is has open...

  6. Has anyone used the Mabru AC units?

Thinking about replacing the 3 AC units in the cabins with all in ones. Have been watching the rebuild of the 53' Whiticar Sea Lion on FB, the boat from the TV show Walkers Cay Chronicles, and they're going with the Mabru all in ones. They have been only using the best materials and processes so...

  7. Convert Head Allen Bradley Switch to momentary Silver Switch

I am looking to convert my green timed Allen Bradley switch to the silver push button for my VIP head. I bought the plate and the silver switch from Raz. Unfortunately, the plate with the green switch also has two red lights (sump and holding tank) as well as the silver pull for the sump. I assume...

  8. Trim tabs, 53MY

What are the benefits of having partially recessed trim tabs like hatteras did on the 53s? At least the early ones. Benett recommends an inch per foot of loa with a 12" cord. They also suggest not exceeding 12" of cord to reduce drag In order to do that I would have to close the recess and put...

  9. Satellite TV

I was wondering if anyone knew of a quick tool or easy solution for sighting in a satellite tv dish to acquire signal? I currently have a dish mounted on my vessel for while in the marina. I was looking into getting a Tracvision system then I saw the price tag. So, now I'm back to keeping my...

My parents are looking to upgrade, and its my job to do some research and check the boat out for them since I was in the marine industry for years. 11. Granite Top

I have a granite (or composite) table top on a high/low pedestal on our aft deck. It is grossly over-sized for the area. We are looking to replace it with a granite coffee table sized top that when can the attach to the high low pedestal. My guess is something about 24" x 36" or so. I have found a...

  12. Air box drain's redo 8V71TI

Went to boat to check out air box drains. It looks like I need to find a 4'-0" body to change them. Earlier posts has mentioned that I should extend drains so you can check the check value at oil changes. Questions: 1. Can I use galv.pipe for any extensions? 2. Coming off air box should I...

  13. New Waterpump comes with cover plate off

I picked up a new fresh water pump today from Atlantic DDA, and was surprised to see that it come with the face cover off. Does anybody know if it needs to be off in order to install the pump on the engine? I'd much rather put the plate in place on my work bench than cramped in my bilge.

  17. Question Questions about purchasing / maintenance / usage costs associated with 43C OR 46C

It is my life dream to purchase a live-aboard offshore boat near my family (Port Aransas, TX) to take myself (and my children) into retirement. Having grown up on the water, I am certain it is something I want my kids to experience. After speaking with my wife, we have settled on 2 different...

  18. Engine mounts

Met the mechanic today and the outboard front engine mount on the starboard engine is broken. The steel is fine, just the rubber bushing has crushed as I understand it. We need to raise it close to 1/2 inch. Any ideas? Just a rubber shim or replace the mount?

  19. Fuel/Water tank gauges

I want to put a good digital tank gauge set on all my tanks in my 1978 53MY. The Snake River "Accu8" looks good, but I don't know how to get the old gauge plugs out of my tanks. All diesel and water tanks have the same gauge plug which is a very large (about 2.5 in) bronze hex cap with a dished...
