  4. Smile A small victory with the Genset

Today i had a small victory....My 15kw Northern Lights genset runs well. However, the priming pump seal is broken and when it is screwed up, will start to lossen and let air in and soon after the genny stops. I once paid a lot of money for this to be fixed (before i knew what i was doing)....

  5. Interfacing vintage Robertson autopilot with GPS????

I am trying to interface my Northstar GPS with my old Robertson AP200DL autopilot. I followed the instructions for the NMEA connections but the two units will not talk. Is there a trick to getting them to communicate? I have set the GPS to output the proper sentences, and have connected the NMEA...

  7. How small can you go?

What are the smallest diesels that you could put into a Hat 36C that would allow you to cruise at 15 to 18 knots with a max of 20 knots. Looking for durability and fuel efficiency. Would twin 4 cylinder Yanmars work?

  8. 671 TIB RPM problem

I have a 1988 38 ft. conv. with 671's rated for 485 HP. During a survey there was one bad injector on each engine so prior owner had all injectors replaced. It originally had M110 injectors and they were replaced with 7255's per Detroit. The boat used to be able to get 2400 RPM WOT with the old...

Bringing the boat up from Daytona. Left Sun. and got a USCG safty inspection yesterday outside of Oak Island, N.C. Very professional and went thru everything. 11. Full Work Day

Well its been a while since I posted. We spent the day working feverishly on Karla. We gutted the interior of all soft goods. Carpet, mattresses, couch curtains, bedding etc. We cut the rear deck enclosure off and cleared the whole aft deck of all the makeshift seating and rotten rail. After...

  13. Hull Speed with 12V71s for longer distances

I have a 1987 55C with the higher HP 12V71s. With the high price of fuel I plan on slowing down to get better efficiency. Having said that, I understand that running the engines at lower temp at a hull speed of 7-8 knots is bad for them. What alternatives are there? Thanks

  14. Dish Network hook up qustion

Getting Dish Network installed in a few days and wonder what is the best way to make the connection to the boat. West Marine has several connectors that seem workable. 15. Engine Removal

How much should I expect to pay to have two 8v71s removed from my boat? I have broken them down to the point they are ready to come out. I have asked the yard for an estimate but they seem reluctant to give any figure for the task. I believe in paying a fair rate for the work, I just want to...

  17. Engineroom Intakes

Have a 1970 53MY with the louvred engineroom intakes amidships on the hull. Mine are in pretty rough shape with peeling paint and several cracked fiberglass louvres. Additionally, the rivets that hold the louvres in place are corroding away, making some of the louvres set loosely in the intake...

  19. Hatteras 34- engine choices???

I have a 34' hatter as with the Ford 440 engines (I believe that they are Chrysler m440). Exhaust manifolds are shot, and are no longer in production. Does anyone have suggestions on engine size if I were to repower? And appropriate marine gear size, reduction ratio and prop size? Thanks.
