  2. Original Engine Reliability - 1970

How many of you run original engines with year models back near 1970 and trust them enough to go 50+ miles offshore like these boats were originally meant to? The 41 my partner recently got has what seems to be the original 8v53's with really unknown history at this point.

  4. 53'-58' MY or YF. need master shower drain acess hatch location

Well, after pulling my hair out trying to find the leak at the floor of the companion way wall next to the master shower, I am now forced to cut the floor and inspect the shower drain. I need the exact location of the hatch so I can cut an access panel .If you can, please include pictures to help...

  5. Engine room blower design

Most boats have the air intakes located simply on the engine and consuming warm engine room air and therefore drawing air naturally through the hull side vents. A few boats ( 48 conv, 50 conv II, 55 conv I ) have cockpit located air intakes providing cooler air to the engines. What was the...

  6. drain plug thoughts??

I’ve noticed that the larger boats (non-trailerable) don’t come with factory installed drain plugs. Am I missing the obvious reason for not having a drain plug? I just moved up from a 35 convertible. And when I bought the 35, the first winter I found water in the bilge almost up to the galley...

  7. Wolverine heaters

Has anyone appied a wolverine pad type block heater to the coolant resevoir rather than the oil pan? I hav etwo 500W units but can not see a space large enough on the oil pan to apply them. There is plenty of space on the resevoir, but I have reservations about how affective it would be.

  8. 199 43 DC FB sewage hose under galley.Parquet floor

Should read 1979 Replaced from master to where it vanishes to under the galley floor, zero access without destruction, now, under the dinette where the fwd water tank is, there is a bulkhead which appears to run for and aft which may provide access to under the galley floor, anyone investigated...

  11. Oil change valve

hello. Has anyone seen an oil change valve like this? I don't know if it's from an oil change system that had a pump hooked up to it, or a valve you attach a portable pump to. The two engines are hooked up to it, but output has a plug in it. eventually I want to build a new oil change system,...

  13. Giving the 8v71n's a bath

Hi All, My 71's have been well cared for but they haven't really had a good external cleaning. The grime and occasional chipped paint makes them look un-kept so my brilliant idea was to clean them and paint most of the top. Obviously I'm not going to be using a hose and pail of water down...

  14. What are the negatives to removing my shorepower connections?

I am sure I will get a lot of comments but here is the scenario. Our boat has a Glendenning Cablemaster system on the starboard side of the boat. It is a 50 amp connection in the side of the hull about mid-ship just about where the dinette is located. It is very easy to use and we have used this...

  15. Crome Plated "valve covers" for an 8V71N - Trade ? ?

Hi All, One of my 71n's has chrome or stainless "valve covers" (not sure of the correct term for a diesel engine). Why you might ask, well what I heard from the prior owner was the owner before him wanted to put them on both engines but never got to it. I'd like to swap them out for a regular...

  16. Dishwasher drain line

Does anybody know the routing of the dishwasher drain line on an 87 63MY. It dissappears behind the galley up cabinets. There is a 3 line manifold in the port ER, but its not one of them. I dont see a dedicated outlet on the hull, and I assuming it uses a grey water outlet.. Anybody know? Thanks...

  17. Is this an engine deriven water pump?

Is this a water pump? It's leaking water out of the hole on the back of the pump...(just like on a car).... questions are... 1) Is this the engine-driven water pump? 2) Can it be rebuilt without taking it off of the engine? 3) Can anyone rebuild it? Or...does it have to be sent off...

  18. Flexible shaft couplings...yea or nay?

I'm moving on to mechanical and interior work on my Roamer project, and shafts are next up. I've never used flexible shaft couplings, but I do like the idea of isolating the shaft and prop from the engine and, by extension, the aluminum hull, frames etc. I've heard some folks say they also smooth...

  20. Reverse Polarity with Generator
