  1. gas engine overheat

I started up the engines, let them warm up, decided to go for a spin. Right after I got out of the marina, at 2000 rpm, I saw that the port engine heat was at 175, and was climbing steadily. I throttled back down to neutral. By this time, the temp was 240. It stayed there and did not come back...

  2. Insurance for older boats

Have a 1965 Hatteras. I love the boat, getting tired of the projects, but you all know that. Got a letter from Hagerty, saying they will now require a new survey to continue insurance. 1- Where do the classic Hatteras owners insure their boats? 2- Anyone knows a good marine surveyor in...

  4. Servicing antique exhaust risers and manifolds

Any ideas on how to service exhaust manifolds and risers from the 60's? I might have a tiny crack not visible to the eye that is leaking water from the water jacket into the manifold, into the cylinder

  5. depth finder going nuts

I usually travel at around 20-30 feet of water, and last week my depth finder (Garmin) started to give readings of 40-60 ft. In addition, the readings change every second or so between these two ranges. I dove down to clean the transducer, pulled the cable at the back to check the wires, and...

  6. Question for Chrysler 426 experts

This thread is for anyone familiar with the 426 Chrysler gas engines. For ones that are not familiar here are the basics: Water pump has 2 impellers in separate sections of the pump housing, one feeds the thermostat, the other goes to the trans cooler. There is a separate intake hose for each...

  8. 120 V ground and 12 V negative

I just realized that my 120 V ground and 12V negative are connected to different parts of the engine frame. Is that supposed to be?? I highly doubt it. I am considering moving the 120V ground to an electrode on the ER floor, removing any connectivity to 12V neg. Any thoughts?

  11. do number blades on an impeller matter?

For my generator, I ordered an impeller that fit the description of the old impeller, 2" diam, 6 blades, 7/8 deep, 1/2" brass core with screw. What I received has everything right but it had 8 blades instead of 6. Should send it back or use what I have?

  12. Can wire alternator to charge house batteries?

In my 1965 41DC (426 Chryslers), my port engine has a 12 V generator as well as the alternator. The alternator charges the engine batteries, and the generator charges the house batteries. The generator is old (looks original) and very big and heavy. I would like to remove it to improve engine...

  14. How to bend the handrailing on the side for new installation?

My 1964 41DC has a wire that goes on top of the stanchions. Because it is more of a lifeline and not a handrail, I keep running into a few issues: In winter time, each stanchion top becomes a source of a hole on the cover. Second, when someone pulls or pushes the the stanchion, all the force is...

on my 16K BTU cruisairs, there seems to be only once valve that seems to be made for a refill (it is on the low pressure side). Does that sound right? Or is there always 2 valves? Any ideas?

  20. Hatteras Fuel Gauges

Does anyone have experience adding wired fuel guages to Hatteras MYs? I have a 1987 43' that has fuel gauges mounted on the top of the two tanks, and would like to have gauges up on the helm. But, I don't know what I'm in for, nor how to select a wired gauge. Any suggestions?
