  1. "Odors"Holding tank 1979 43 DC

OK, tanks appears to be "clean", vent is clear, all hoses tight, wipe all hoses with clean cloth, cloth has no odor. But there is an odor that appears to be part sewage combined with the old bilge odor and is worse at the holding tank location (tank is forward) I filled the tanks with fresh...

  2. "Ospho" for HE Cleaning ?

Does anyone know if "Ospho" is the same product as ph-ospho-RIC ? This is the only product I can find in the Chesapeake bay area. Home Depot and the paint stores around here do not seem to know what Ph-ospho-RIC is. I would like to do my gensets this weekend but I not sure if this is the same...

  3. "Rudder Shudder"

While cruising the last few weeks, I have occasionally been down in the aft stateroom (1978 53MY) while the Admiral was at the helm, usually with the autopilot, cruising 12 to 15 knots. I heard a strong vibration sound 3 or 4 times per minute, so I opened the lazarette lid and looked in. I saw...

  4. "Shoot-through" Depth finder transducers

Has anyone here used the shoot-through type depth transducers on a 53MY rather than a through-hull mount? I would like install new depth finders and the shoot-throughs would be a lot easier to install but I'm concerned that there would be an awful lot of material for the sound impulses to shoot...

We splashed at 10:10 A.M. The "HATT TRICK" has been born. Trojan Bill and his friend Howard rode in from Toledo just in time to see us launch. Bill will post pics when able and will definitely post later today. ppat

"Twin Detroit 16 cylinder diesel engines with 1400 hp and they have 3700 hours on them" This boat I'm looking at is a 1990 Sport Fish. Is this excessive hours? Anyone comment on the 16 cylinder engines as far as reliability or longevity. The boats pretty much spotless accept for this mess...

  11. "Weeping" FG Resin?

Hi Guys n Gals. Another great surprise emerged recently. On the underside of the Flybridge overhang covering the side decks, there has emerged several spots, seemingly all at about the same time, where little holes have opened up and what appears to be uncured brown/greenish resin seems to be...

  12. "Wings"

Well, my 2-year old repairs of the wing door side panels on SERENITY (1970 53MY) have failed. These are the inch thick, balsa cored panels outboard of the aft wing door frames that set vertically between the liferail and the roof. Clearly water had previously gotten into the cores and begun...

  13. "Y" valve on holding tank

Speaking of Y valves on holding tank. Went to boat this weekend and took boat out. Before leaving the dock I turned the valve to allow the waste to go to the holding tank. While at dock we use the marina bathhouse. Very, very, very hard to open the y valve.. Closed the seacock going overboard...

  15. "Your boat is too old" Insurance ??

I am having a hard time finding insurance from my 1965 41 DC. Metlife said they will not insure boats more than 15 years old, and Progressive will not insure boats over 20 years old. Is anyone working with an agent that services the IL area that can underwrite for older boats? Thanks, Akin

  16. '60-63 Trunk cabin engines

After much discussion with the broker (& then a mechanic), we've determined that the engines in the '62 41'er aren't 6v71's - as the Forum insisted don't fit in the early trunkcabins - but are 6-53 nats. I'm not looking for a high 20's cruise (close to 20 would be fine), but can this boat get out...

For those of you with a 41 Twin Cabin, I saw this on eBay and thought someone may be in need of it. 1966 Hatteras 41 Twin Cabin Yacht Owners Manual, here's the link. $10 bucks seems cheap if you're without one...or happen to have that EXACT hull number. ...

  19. Question '70 41c refit refrigerator options.

Has anyone out there relocated the galley steps to accomodate the new refrigerator sizes, and were there issues in the engine compartement? Or has anyone had any luck with custom size refrigerators? I am doing a full refit but want to keep the boat as original as possible.

Having just returned from a month aboard Bill Allen's 1973 43 MY (Brielle NJ to Marathon, Fla) with him I thought I'd share similarities and differences I noted relative to my 1972 48 YF. (also a brief comment later relative to the 44 triple cabin MY). From the circa 1971 Hatters brochure I...
