  1. Underwater Lighting

We're hauling out our 46c tomorrow for a little driveling vibration and some bottom paint. While we are there I am thinking of adding some underwater lighting. Anybody have suggestions? I'm leaning toward Lumitec and the Seablaze X2 line. Either doing 4 or 5. I prefer to stay away from the...

  2. Hull Drain

I do not understand the need for a "hull drain" located in the forward bilge of my 1978 37C. I broke the whole assembly loose from the hull trying to open it recently and had to take it out to reseal it. It obviously has not ever been used and I can see why. Most bilges do not drain to this...

  3. Galley Maid Windlass Breaker Issue

I used my 32 volt Galley Maid Windlass to pull anchor several times since I bought boat. In March we pulled 600' of rode with no issue. Went out a couple weeks ago and had about 750' of rode out. Started pulling in and the windlass started kicking breaker. I was running toward anchor to keep much...

  4. Engine Alignment

So we got 4 new cutlass bearings and 1 new shaft (replaced 2 piece) while we were on the hard. Bad part is the yard did not have anyone to do an alignment. I am familiar with the concept. But when I look at my motor mounts they have shims not wedges and obviously no screw pins. So if I attempt...

  5. Bathroom Update

Time to give the boat updated bathrooms. I am wondering if there is a more modern design available for this tap set? It will not be available in Australia. Are there any tricks to removing the old? It has the plunger pole behind the spout for operating the plug. Any supplier/product...

  6. Broken shower head wall mount

Hi all. The hand held shower head pivots on a pin mounted to the shower wall. The pin is fine, but the part that pivots over it broke. It’s a chrome part but surprisingly it’s plastic. It only lasted 42 years. Home Depot only has the home style hand held heads that take water from a shower...

  7. How Does One Remove Datamarine 330 Remote from Panel?

Our boat has 2 Datamarine 3030 Remote displays (one on the flybridge and one in the master stateroom). The digital display inside the instrument in the master still works, but it has come loose within the unit and is sitting there at an angle. (See photo) I would like to remove the unit and...

  8. sending units

I have a 1978 53MY with 8V71Ts. I just wrapped up an inline rebuild of my starboard engine (fun) and now I'm trying to fix the water temp and oil pressure gauges. Mechanic said to try and find both sending units for dual station. The current gauges are AC and Sams doesn't carry. Does anyone...

  10. 53MY Pilot House Door Restoration Woes

All; We're servicing the pilot house doors right now. What was "let's put new rollers on the doors this weekend" has turned into a mulit-month project. Starboard is complete, and now we're starting on Port. The decorative panel is very thin as everyone here has expressed some dismay over. Wait...

  11. Help for Detroit 8V71Tis Low oil pressure at idle

At idle one of my Detroits is only showing 3 to 5 lbs oil pressure. Once I increase the rpm's it increases to 45 lbs. Need help finding a 2 cycle Detroit guy in the Boca Raton-Delray Beach area. 12. Yanmar 230 with 1.5:1 transmissions Hatteras 34

I found a pair of Yanmar 230hp engines with 1.5:1 transmissions. Ideally I would need 2:1 transmissions, but I can get the engines for around $10k. Right now the detroits are 170hp with 1.52:1 transmissions. Would the Yanmars with the 1.5 work on my boat? Hatteras 34.

  14. battery terminals

Hello, I'm changing out my battery cables, corrosion was making its way back from the ends. I'm wondering what battery terminals everyone is using. I'm looking at military low profile style, any top mount styles don't allow the box lids sit properly. Thanks Walt Hoover

  15. In the wall?

Getting ready to hang a flat tv mount in the aft starboard corner of the saloon. Is there some kind of framing in the wall? What’s the thickness if the plywood paneling? Do you think it’s stout enough to hang a tv on? Thanks?Bob

  16. 24 Gallon Coolant Swap in 28 Minutes

Just broke my own record doing a coolant drain and refill aboard Aslan. Some may recall I replaced the HE and oil cooler petcocks with ball valves some time back. No surprise, draining was a snap with not a drop of the 24 gallons of port motor's old coolant missing the buckets. What's...

  17. Shore power/electrical question

I have a 37C. Stayed on the hook all weekend using the generator. All was well. Came back to dock, hooked back up to pedestal, turned on the salon a/c and it would not turn on and was making a weird sound. A couple of outlet breakers tripped in house also. I immediately shut off the 2 breakers on...

  18. Galley Maid Windlass removal

It put up fight. Started with just pulling the motor to get replaced with a 24v motor from Raz but once we pulled the motor we saw water coming out of the gear case. Chain gipsy is frozen on shaft. I think It took the guys longer to get it out than to pull one Detroit :( Going to have it...

  20. Enough is enough--need Detroit mechanic

I am in desperate need of a reliable Detroit mechanic to complete a 12v71 TA cylinder job in a 55' Hatteras. PLENTY of head and working room.
