  1. fresh water in oil

Last week I went to the boat to run the engines in my slip. It is in fresh water river a little north of lake Pontchartrain outside of New Orleans, LA. I checked the engine oil and coolant level in both DD 6V92TA engines before starting them. The levels were normal full, about 2" below the cap on...

  3. An electrical gremlin

I am replacing a 32v livewell pump with a 12v. The wiring from the breaker box to a junction box by the old pump has a (+) , a(-), and a ground. I have a 12v bank that I ran a + and - from to the existing wiring at the 32v panel. I get 12v readings at the pump but it won't power up. I've...

  4. Deck paint

The PO apparently repainted the non-skid areas and didn't do a very good job. I need to put a coat or two of paint over the existing non-skid. I don't think I need to add more nonskid as they went a bit heavy I think. What is the recommended paint to recover the nonskid areas? Also, they...

  6. 41TC new AC unit(s)

Hello, my old 68 41TC still has the split R22 systems. Who out there has replaced the old units? What did you use and where did you place them? I’m thinking three self contained units, one in the lazarette, one somewhere close to the main cabin air handler and something in the V berth to cover it...

  8. Steering on plane

When on plane the boat steers easier to port than starboard. It's about 50% harder to turn the wheel clockwise. At slow speed it's easy both ways. Hydraulic system is in good shape. Would toe in or out of the rudders have this effect?

I have a Garmin 6kw pedestal that has some of the paint/powder coating flaking off. Is there a paint anyone has used to do touch ups that won't interfere with the radar performance, etc? Garmin would be happy to repair it for me for $1,500, but that's a bit steep...

So I have owned my '72 43' DCFB, since 1997. Still have the original shore power cables, which have not let me down. However, the PO must have docked where there was creosote, etc., since these cables are tarred looking, dirty and black streaks. I have tried various means to clean them with...

  18. Alternators Indicates Over Charge

My starboard volt gauge consistently shows charging right at about 30 volts. The port side indicates about 26 volts. 19. Beneficial to have a camera pointed at the props?

We are beginning the install of a pile of underwater lights and 1 camera in the next week or so. One of my buddies made the comment that I should put a camera pointed at each prop.
