Hello guys, question, Is there a specific overhaul kit for 8v71Ti I can purchase from Detroit for pistons, rods, bearings, gaskets ect...? I'm planning on overhauling at the end of the hurricane season. I'd like to have the kits as well as anything else needed on hand ahead of time. Thank...

  2. What's the plastic material on the side decks?

The MYs all have a plastic "fence" around the side decks/aft deck. What material is that? It appears to be heat-formed at the bends at the stern. Is that correct? Ours has a crack near the bend in the aft port side that was barely visible when we bought the boat but has now expanded noticeably....

  3. Peel and stick tiles for heads

Hi everyone. I’m wondering if anyone has redone a shower using peel and stick vinyl tile? I’d prefer to save the weight and go with these light tiles but am wondering if anyone has used them and do they hold up well ? Thanks!

  4. 1972 43DC Air condition woes

Hi everyone, I have a 1972 43DC. The a/c unit that cools the salon is on its last legs and my a/c guy suggested i put a self contained unit in the space that currently holds the air return and the evaporator. That unit is built into the Stbd wall of the salon directly below the salon sliding...

What size are the copper lines connecting the sink? I am not at the boat and want to pick up a couple of valves to install on the way.

  6. New Starting Bank 8V71Ti

All; While there's a thread about re-inventing the house bank here, what about new battery technology for starting banks? I'm trolling for comments on using 16V racing batteries for the starboard starting bank. A few battery sales folk who love selling me 4D 8V batts are suggesting I try...

  7. electrical panel 1965 41 DC Question

1965 41 DC electrical question: My electric panel gets all of the power from the shore power connected to the SB side. The Port shore power only powers my port side AC and nothing else. (boat came that way) The problem I am trying to solve is that 90% of the electrical weight seems to be on...

  8. water salinity tester?s

I have a 1985 Vantage Marine Aqua Cube watermaker that we are looking to get back into service. Prior owner hadn't used it in 15 years. Pump started up and unit appears that it's going to work. I have new membranes ready to go but I'm not sure if the gauges work and or if they are accurate. ...

  9. Insurance with limited experience

Is it possible to get insurance on a 50-53ft boat with limited experience? When I say limited, I mean 21' lake boat type experience, so virtually zero "big boat" experience. Thanks.

  10. DD 8V71T specs. What components went into turning 435 hp to 462 hp in later years?

I have 8v71TI's spec'd at 435 HP. I found a later model DD brochure for the same engines (7082-3300, 7082-7300) spec'd out at 462 HP. Does anyone know what components Detroit changed to make the extra horsepower in the later version 8v71TI? Both early and late versions list the same N90...

  12. Anyone Using Digital Yacht's Tri Nav GPS Sensor?

Just curious if anyone has experience with this sensor? It receives signals from three different satellite systems (GPS,GLONASS & Gallileo) at once and can be purchased as either NMEA0183, NMEA2000 or PC USB. May sound strange but one of my biggest concerns on the water in the future is GPS...

  13. Robertson RPU-3 Pump

1986 63MY has a Robertson RPU-3 pump and motor that, based on installation, I believe is original equipment. The head unit has been updated at some time in the past. The unit steers perfectly. Since we bought vessel a year ago, the motor is very noisy. Source of noise is on end away from pump;...

  14. New throttle/transmission cables. Which brand?

I have had an opportunity to compare the Teleflex TFXtreme 3300/33C and the Glendinning 33C cables side-by-side and there is no comparison. The difference is amazing. The Glendinning are far superior and they are sold by Sams.

  16. 6v92TA Water Pump Circlip

I'm in the middle of replacing the circulating pump on my port engine and managed to lose the circlip that holds the faceplate of the pump in place. I think I left it on the counter at NAPA a week ago when I was buying the circlip pliers for the job, but they can't find it. Does anybody have a...

  19. Northern Lights 20KW HE Core Surprise

As part of my hurricane evac prep, I expediting my generator servicing. To wit, I pulled the HE core on my genset for a dip in phosphoric acid. The raw water tubes were in pretty good shape.
