  1. Robertson AP has stopped working

This unit was working since I owned the boat, but late last year it stopped. All the lights come on, and the heading window shows the correct course, but it does not control the boat, either automatically, or by manually turning the steer knob on the unit. Does anyone have any suggestions on...

  2. Starting Issue - I'm vexed

I have to admit I'm mystified... A while back I changed the 8v71TIs main and secondary fuel filters. Until I changed them, the engines started instantly from cold. Now, they require substantial cranking before they will fire and it is obviously lack of fuel. If the boat has been sitting for...

  3. head reccomendations

next project on my 42C is to replace or rebuild the raritan head. Works fine now but needs a bearing in the motor.. A couple of friends have the vacu flush systems and tell me they are great. I would appreciate any advice from the group on what they general opinion is on the best new head systems...

  4. Question How important is my bonding system in fresh water?

I am just completing the restoration of my 1967 41' Twin Cabin. This included replacing the salon and bridge window frames (do to pitting of the aluminum) and all glass as well replacing decks & repainting the entire boat. During the restoration all the thru hulls were inspected and appeared to...

  5. Overflow Tank

One of the plastic over flow tanks on my 1979 DD 671N's has developed a leak at the barb on the bottom of the tank where the hose from the closed cooling reservoir pressure cap overflow connects. I have called the local DD dealer and they want $137 for this little plastic tank ... which seems...

  6. SERIES I or II ?

As I was registering for this forum I was asked to identify my boat. I have a 1989 Double Cabin Hatteras, but have no idea how to determine if it is a series "I" or "II"-apparently something changed in the model year. I put "I" because it seems pretty much identical to a few 1988's I've seen, but...

  7. Dock Lines

OK. Every two to three years, I replace my dock lines. I usually use 5/8" X 35' or 40' for my 50' motoryacht. I know it calls for 3/4" but for my usual slip and general use, they work fine and handle well. Now the problem is that all the local stores sell what appears to be the same...

  8. DD671 Cooling Pipe

Perhaps this is a question for Boatdiesel, but here goes! The raw water cooling pipe coming off the rear of my port DD671TI has deteriorated beyond repair. This 2" copper pipe is about 2 feet long with a 90 degree bend near one end and has a 3/8 inch hose attached at the bend and a 1 inch hose...

  9. Fluxgate Compass Position

I have a 1985 36C and I need to mount the Fluxgate Compass somewhere in the boat. I was thinking under the bottom step which is currently a small storage area. The AC panel is in this area but most likely will not be used while under way. Does anyone have any experience with this location or a...

  10. Can someone tell me what this is?

Maybe I am having a brain freeze - but I do not know what this is (circled inthe image). Is is attached (normally - I have it apart now doing the rudder port) between the hynautic steering cylinder and the rudder arm. Is it some kind of autopilot actuator? My autopilot has a hydraulic pump in one...

  11. Stainless bolt in bronze hole?

Hi there. In taking out my rudders, I had to remove a collar from each shaft. The collar has a lock screw (with allen key head) to hold the collar in place on the shaft. The collars are bronze. One one rudder, the lock screw was bronze. It came out OK, but since it is so soft, it was...

  12. T=Bolt Clamps

For my shaft log hose clamps, I switched the prior owner's perf screw clamps over to beefy T-bolt clamps. The question is, how tight do you tighten these, since they seem to just get tighter and tighter as you crank the nut on the T-bolt. I don't wnat to split the hose material or crush the shaft...

last sunday coming back i momentarily lost steering on the flybridge, then when i checked again a couple of days ago I noticed i had 0 steering... wheel could be turned endlessly. 15. Wood Works

Did you ever watch that guy on the DYI network. In this day and age of poor quality workmanship, it's great to see a real craftsman at work. I believe he could do some Hatteras type work that one would be proud to own. Have Fun Boating garyd

  17. It's that time again! 1st Named Storm

Well, I guess the worrying begins early this year. Just saw where Arlene is headed into the Gulf. I can't remember it starting quite this early before. We had Bertha back in 1996 in July, and that was about as early as I can remember. Hope you guys down on the panhandle fare better this year....

  18. Genesis-heat exchanger back-flush

I am about to clean my heat exchanger using the method described by Genesis but can't find the Ph-Ospho-RIC anywhere. The Home Depots in my area (South Jersey) don't have it. Is there another source for this product? If you know of one I'd appreciate it if you could post it. Thanks Ron

Duh... So I was replacing the sealant and splines in my 53MY windshields and managed to crack one by using steel tools too close to glass.
