  1. General Hatteras Advice Needed

My wife and I are looking to purchase a used Hatteras MY. We recently looked at a 38’ with twin Detroit diesels 6V53N. The engines each had 4800 hours . Even if these engines had been meticulously maintained, is 4800 still a lot of hours? If this boat had to be repowered with new engines, would...

  4. 45 prop size

I have a 1970 45 with 8V71TI, been restoring for 2 years, finally got my tachs going, and can only get 2100 RPM WOT. The props are 4 bladed 28x30. Any ideas on re-working or replacing my props? I would like to also find a better used set as these are old.

  5. Generator hunting problem

Ever since I bought my boat 13 months ago the Onan generator 6.5k gas has had difficulty maintaining constant speed. If I adjust the idle and main carburetor jets it gets better then I put a load on it and it'll run all day long in spec. Just when I think I got it the next time I go to the boat it...

  6. Genset Shut Down

I did something really studpid this weekend, I let my 7.5 Onan MDJE run the forward fuel tank dry. ( 1979 43 DCMY ) The genset is now totally dead, no response at all to the start switch, which I'm assuming is the result of a safety shut down at the control panel. Two questions: First, does...

  8. Secret of Mystery Water Solved

I was quite pleased that I had zero water in the bilge after being gone for two weeks...some leaks are so difficult to identify, but I thought I had them all. Rebedded a main raw water intake and repacked the rudder stuffing boxes. But no. My wife stayed aboard and in a week more water shows up...

  10. CruiseAir water pump

I have a CruiseAir 3000gph 230v pump that supplies all 4 of my A/c units. It has started to take a long time to prime after cruising. The strainer is clean, but the pump will barely supply enough water to flow through the shortest hose run off of the manifold. Then, after about 30 min it will...

  12. Red face Check Valve in RACORS

I have RACOR "Cruise Pack" set ups on my 6V92TA's. On my port engine the aft filter will not allow fuel to flow, when I close the fwd filter and open the valve to the aft filter the vacuum gauge goes immediately into the red (full restriction). Is there a check valve at the bottom of the tube in...

  13. Question re SCUBA -

Is there any way - other than scuba certification - to be able to do routine look-sees/maintainance on the boat in the water? I just can't see (or fit into my schedule) taking a many-week course to be able to "dive" 6-10 feet.

  15. Bypass blower for twin turbo 6v92's

Does anyone know what's involved if you want to replace non-bypass blowers on old twin dry turbo 6v92s with newer bypass blowers? The bypass blower reduces rotor lobe drag and can increase fuel economy. If you use the same ratio on the blower is it a bolt on mod, or will the bypass change the...

  17. Not Hatt specific, but.......

....... I've been playing around with laminating some teak onto the bow of my run-about. As I was wet-sanding the teak, I noticed that several strips had partially de-laminated.
