  2. SSB Installation in a 45C

The owner's manual says a screen mesh can be found forward in the flybridge for use as a radio counterpoise. Is this adequate for a SSB installation? I thought below the waterline was better for a counerpoise?

  3. 8D's & Golf Cart batteries

OK ... I've been reading all these threads on batteries and inverters and have the following observations/questions: 1. If golf cart batteries are able to start our Detriots if they fire off relatively quickly, then why can't we use one set of 8D's on the port engine/generator and golf cart...

  4. Water in Marine Gear

The oil cooler to the trans in my 41tc leaked and as a result I have water contamination in the Allison Trans. I replaced the cooler and flushed the gear several times with fresh oil but can't seem to get all the water out. The Detroit manual says to flush a contaminated engine with a 50% mix...

  5. Pre-oiler And Filtration System

Someone turned me on to AMS Oil. I went on to their web site and reviewed their products. Although I have always used synthetic in my cars, I decided to change to AMS Oil. Changed Transmission fluid and noted an immediate change in the way my car shifts. Thus far seems to be a good product. ...

  6. Onan Generator Oil

I have no information on my generator other than its a 1973,6.5KW Onan. I would like to change the oil. What kind do I use. I did get the numbers off of the filters so I do have them. Why can't I use the same oil as in my Detroits? I think that is what is in it today. Bill

  7. weekend thrill raw water problem

On a weekend day cruise the temp of one of our 671TIs starts to rise fast and then the engine exhaust suddenly gets louder than normal. A quick run to bilge and SURPRISE. One of the new hoses on the raw water cooling system at the pipe between the raw water pump and the intercooler came off the...

  8. 32V inverter found (I think)

After days of checking and calling, I have decided that The Tripplite APS 3636VR 3600W inverter/charge sounds OK for the 32V Hatt system. It will accept DC input of 30-45VDC. I haven't checked all the possible sources but here is one listing: ...

  9. Goofy Tachometer Readings

I have a 73/ 43ft with 6-71DDN. The lower station tachs read correctly with the engines turning 2000rpm on the lower station. The upper stations read 500 plus on the port and 500 minus starboard. What gives? Any ideas? At idle they read the same. Bill

  10. Kohler Hour Meter/Fused?

I just ran one of my 2 gensets on my 56 MY this weekend and the hour meter only recorded the first day of running. This might seem goofy, but my main stateroom A/C is not working all that well, but the compressor is covered with ice/??? Usually ther are fairly warm, but this one is cold. 14. Do Circuit Breakers Go Bad (32v)?

I had to replace our Galley Maid pump last week. After the new pump was installed, the breaker pops when there is a load on the motor. I conditioned the stator as I have been trained by GM. Is there a chance that the breaker is "bad"? How do I test the breaker? Thanks. DC

  15. Battery Bank splitting?

We briefly hit this in the inverter thread but I want to understand the actual electrical issues here. It was pointed out that ABYC standards basically state that a battery bank can't be split - for example, a 24V tap out of a 32V system - without some other associated equipment. I'm trying...

  17. Trico Air Operated Wiper Motors

I am searching for either rebuild kits or rebuilt motors etc for my Trico air operated wiper motors. Over the years these were used extensively on trucks with air brakes etc. To my surprise, I called my local truck parts supply house and told them what I wanted. Only to hear a chuckle on the other...

  18. '74 36 Convertible Survey Questions

Had a 1974 36C surveyed yesterday with a few disappointments that I need opinions on. Boat was repainted by current owner several years back and looks great. My main concerns were the original mechanicals. 3160 Cats with 1400 hours (reported) on starboard and 400 on rebuilt Port. Engines...

  19. A wonderful Hatt-related story

Just a little while ago a friend who keeps a boat out east of here told me this: A gentleman he knows is 86, his wife is 85. Back in the mid-60's he (the now 86-year old) bought a new Hatt - My friend told me what size but I don't remember. They used the boat a lot but their private business...

  20. Keel Walking

Starting new thread on this issue. I remember some talk over the last few years about cutting down the keel. Think i would pass on that idea. I did have one idea that stems from an experience I had back in the early 1980's. We had a Ski Supreme, inboard ski boat with 3 fins . The boat...
