  2. Bilge Drainage

I am restoring a 1975 46ft SF HAT and have been cleaning out the bilges and have a couple of questions. How can you control oil that leaks from the engines? Currently it will move pretty much the length of the boat between the stringers. I would add that it does not flow to the center section....

  5. Question Hurricane power trick?

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine that has a house on a canal in West Palm Beach. He doesn’t have any power but his boat has a 12kw generator. So this is what he told me he did. He jumped his sliding shore/generator switch with 8 gauge wire and crimp connectors so that his generator...

  6. Wilma tie up..

Here is my boat at the Miami Beach Marina right after Wilma. Beside all the lines I also had a FX 37 anchor out. Dingy cover was ripped off and a little vinyl glass damage, but that was it. I got off the boat about 3:30 am and could not get back to the boat till 11:00 am. Just got power and...

  10. waste disposal (sort of) question

  13. To paint or not to paint....

I have recently looked at a very late (among the last built) 1987 53' Classic MY. The aluminum window frames are painted, and the paint is failing. An aquaintance with a 53 ED has said not to buy a boat with painted windows as they are a maintenance nightmare. Did this boat come from Hatteras with...

Hi Everyone, I am thinking of repowering my 36c this winter, and I am interested in hearing from anyone who has previously repowered what engines they went with. I have seen a few post here and else where and it looks like the Cummins 330 are the most common. Any suggestions will be...

  16. Drat! cabin roof leak

I cannot find the source of one darned cabin roof leak on our 53MY. It is in the aft port corner of the salon. It drips from the point where the two pieces of trim that cover the tops of the curtains meet (see Pic). The other day I rebedded the flybridge screws in that area - several were...

  19. Question Plastic stuff on bridge dash

My 40' 1988 DC utilizes an inexpensive black plastic material commonly used for indoor signs and engraving to serve as removable backing plates for which all instruments, switches and guages are mounted. Not surprisingly this material is getting brittle and starting to break up. Mike at Sam's said...
